Different cultures. You should come back and give teaching a go in Ireland. It would ground you.

Out of curiosity Fenway and it’s merely because I came across an old post of yours you worked in finance abroad. How did you end up teaching?

Where is that pal?

That doesn’t answer my question. Why should Irish kids have phones in school? There are loads of Europeane, Brits, Americans etc where I work and they survive ok.

I left college with hdip done and a masters in economics. Felt I had to give industry a go before going into teaching as I would always be wondering ‘what if’. When I came home from Boston, I took a 66% paycut to teach. No regrets.

Schools are largely managing mobiles already. This is classic spin from the government, fixing nothing so make up a few problems and solve them.

It’s a vocation first obviously
Well done
Teachers are the most important ppl in our young peoples lives
After parents
Plus they also nurture our young,
I can personally attest to this
Bar 2 absolute loopers back in the 60s we had genuinely fantastic kind , caring educated men that actually showed an interest in us,
I’ve great memories of Scoil an Spioraid Naoimh Bishopstown
And Colaiste an Spioraid Naoimh of the same parish
We’d guys with a GAA/ nationalist interest teaching us so all my contemporaries left school knowing where we came from
This includes presentation bros

I’ve several friends teachers n ex teacher’s N and South and to a man they’ve a gra for it
It’s not about bobs or holidays as most of them spent their spare time showing us how to play football/ hurling and soccer

Vast majority of teachers I had and my kids have now are excellent. There will always be the odd bad egg as in any job/profession.

I have 2 nephews in the job and from what they say I wouldnt be advising any of mine to go that route unfortunately. I know the holidays but it seems from what they say to be an ever increasing workload in a job where work/life balance is increasingly hard and in many schools there seems to be little parental support. They do say they still derive lots of job satisfaction.

I thank any of you here that have dedicated your career to our youth or have kids that have done so

Lovely kid. Earnest, polite and understated. I didn’t have him in class now. Tidy footballer to boot. Hopefully a solution can be found.

Why is a glorified B Comm max points?

That lad’s 2nd choice is fairly inconsistent with his first to be fair. A year out might be ideal for him.

The brainiacs in my day would be putting down Law first and then Medicine second or vice versa.

just checking everyone is happy with the free book scheme guys? i know we fought hard to get it into the PFG

I have a two point plan.

  1. Not give so many people maximum points and
  2. Anyone who does get maximum points should be banned from doing fucking commerce. What a waste.

Between the free book scheme, the school lunches and the childcare subsidies I timed my run at parenthood well.

You have about 14 years to get college back to being properly free again mate.
