The schools

In fairness they’ve halved the “registration” fee from 3k to 1.5k for the past two years, as a cost of living measure. Hopefully it’s retained in this years budget. Given that was Harris’s former brief he might be inclined to keep it going.

Think it was €500 quid when I started

Cost of living crisis. As if it was free to live in the past.

The "we’ve let costs run completely out of control so here’s some free money to stop whinging crisis "

Jaysus nearly every school in the country must be named in the scoping of that report on abuse. Ironically the one school in Waterford where I was aware that there was abuse isn’t named

I’d imagine there was a few abusers who were moved around and committed crimes at different schools

Yes there was a sadist of a brother in our school for a couple of years, physical rather than sexual abuser who was moved from school to school every couple of years.

My old primary school is named. CBS of course but I would have sworn it was all physical, we got leathered. Being able to stand upright and make up the numbers on teams saved me the worst of it but there was some awful god help us in the class that bore the brunt of it.

Rock even won the paedo senior cup

Willow Park clocked up outrageous numbers. Gives the lie to the old theory that they usually targeted lads from poorer families etc.

@Bandage it appears St Peters isn’t listed on the list of schools yet it’s well known many lads there were abused to the hilt. What gives?

Have we not had our day in the sun?

I’d question the comprehensiveness of the thousand odd page report that doesn’t include Peters

I went to a cbs. There were a couple of students in our school who lived in the red brick orphanage beside Quinn’s in Drumcondra. They definitely got targetted for extreme physical abuse by some of the not so christian brothers. Looking back on it now one of these poor lads was completely traumatised. He spent most days sucking the cuff of his jumper and crying for no reason. When you’d ask him why he was crying he wouldn’t even look at you. No one passed any remarks on this even though it went on for a few years.

What kind of country was it at all?

There’s lads here who yearn nostalgically for it

The good old days, where if you weren’t immigrating you were being sexually abused.

Back when the country was safe, for paedophiles, and everyone knew their neighbours, and made sure they were locked up in homes if they got pregnant outside of marraige, and young kids could walk to school on their own, to be physically and sexually abused
