Auger Alissaime into the semi final to face Medvedev. Alcaraz Garfia after losing the first set quit after he went a break down early in the 2nd set.

Medvedev in his 4th hard court slam semi final of the last, will now be looking make it 3 final apperances in the last 5 hard court slams.

Can he go one step further?

There’s a huge physical disparity and conditioning disparity between the 18/19/20 year olds coming through now and the established players in the mid late 20s and 30s.

There’s never going to be a teen winner like Becker, Nadal, Wilander or Borg again in the mens game again.

The likes of Musetti and Alcaraz and a few other emerging players probably won’t be in a position to compete for slams until they are in their 20s.

For me this is the big advantage that the older players have over the younger players going into the Slams. It takes a couple of years of playing 5 set matches to build up the conditioning and the tactics to last the match. We often see the younger players winning the ATP events but those 3 set matches are more sprints compared to the marathon 5 set matches and this why you often see the older players getting to the latter stages of the slams and they are able to beat the younger players in the 5 setters. Looks like Zverev, Medvedev and few others of that generation are starting to get that conditioning and experience now for the 5 setters. Also helps that Federer and Nadal are slowing down.

It’s certainly became a more attritional game in the past 10 year or so which I think is why we’ll never see a teen winner again. It will take 3/4 years of slam experience to get the conditioning up to the required standard.

Baby Nadal getting the world of abuse for being injured. Terrible to see.

World no 150 v world no 73 in the all Canadian women’s final.

The Brits are talking up their Emma but the other lass will win. She had a tougher run to the final and beat better quality opposition.

This British Canadian girl has won 9 matches in a row inc 3 qualifiers so far to get to US open final and has won them all 2-0 , she’s won 109 games and lost 43, now that’s incredible!!

Zverev has taken the first set 6-4 against Djokovic.

Djokovic has this match now. As Andy Roddick says “first he takes your legs, then your soul”. That was grueling 3rd set

34 year old Djokovic fat too strong physically and fitness wise for a 25 year old Zverev once it went to the 5th set.

What a night for British tennis. The 44 year wait for a Ladies Grand Slam champions all the way back to Virginia Wade in the Jubilee Year of 1977 has been bridged.

A wonderful victory for multicultural Britain

Hard to believe that the girl that couldn’t finish her match at Wimbledon due to being overwhelmed only goes and wins the next slam but does the hard way through qualifying and doesn’t drop a set. Unreal stuff.

Slow start for Djokovic.

Medvedev needs to serve this out now for first set.

Djokovic has dropped the first set in his last 5 matches now. He’s won the preceding 4 so I would still regard this as a massive shock.

I’d suspect the only way Medvedev can win this is in straight sets. He needs to go for the jugular in this second set.

Medvedev can be flaky but I think when things are going his way he can have that mettle that is needed.
