Set a new Irish 100km record yesterday
Race abandoned
Is this the event Paddy is running in? Or is that another Alps race?
Wtf is wrong with these people
Adrenaline junkies or lads trying to escape demons
He’s doing CCC, part of the same festival.
The TDS actually is still going on but only those who were in first 280 or something like that could continue because they were beyond the scene
First death I’ve heard on at the UTMB festival and that’s going on for 15 years or more. Now there may have been more but it’s incredibly rare .
This was in reference to the Jornet video.
is the UTMB something similar to that video?
Not really. Very well marked course, well marshalled and descents not as crazy as stuff Jornet does for the craic. Essentially they’re set up for the amateur and the professional to compete. There’s an Irish woman doing TDS at moment. She’s about 26 hours in and is 17th woman.
They’ve a rake of races
OCC 56km approx
CCC 100km
Tds 140
UTMB 170
All approx distances. The UTMB is the big one but the CCC probably gets the next best calibre of athlete
Paddy has done both CCC and UTMB in past @Mac . Did very well at CCC, but UTMB was his first one hundred miler and was more of a struggle
A mate of mine was behind when the stopped the race. Bad buzz, said some bits are very hairy
I’ve two friends who do this sort of thing. They are as far from adrenaline junkies as you’d ever get. Neither seems to be running away from anything. They seem to like the peace and quiet, the camaraderie and the challenge.
Yep. You don’t have to be mad to run 100km or 100 miles. Have spoke to loads of people who do them and they’re all well adjusted, normal people.
@Mac Paddy is 39th so far in the CCC, around quarter of the way through distance wise.
There’s a woman from Tipp (Sarah Brady) 22nd in the women’s.
seems to be dropping back a little bit - 47th now. In saying that, he’s only about 7 minutes short of top 25. I would have expected him to finish top 25 and he might still.
I forgot to mention they have a longer race called PTL, that’s 304km. They’ve been going since Monday. You have to do it in a pair and there’s two brothers from Switzerland about to win it after 100 hours. Think only 61 teams started, and 27 have dropped out already.
I’d say he has a slog ahead of him @Mac
A friend has taken over his Instagram and she’s giving him a nice slagging. His knee giving a bit of bother
he’s a freak, he smashed the 12 hour record in April with Centurion running
New course record on Kerry Way. Set by a lad from I think out yer way @TreatyStones - John McKeogh
