The Ultrarunning Thread

Iā€™ve a few friends doing this. They asked me. I said no. Couldnā€™t be at the training needed.

Iā€™ve ran most of it now at this stage, in various stretches over three years,
Itā€™d be a lovely 4 day ā€˜holidayā€™ where you could enjoy the views and stop for grub etc, that doesnā€™t look like much fun though

There were two lads who got in forty seconds before the 40 hour cut off. They looked absolutely broken men. But they got there

I see on Strava a lad I know did this

Just short of 35 hours. Madness.

I heard another good story from last weekend.

Some fella from Limerick (Drom I think) was about 60 or 70km into the race and his quad was giving him awful trouble. Heā€™d done the race a few times before and never had quad issues, but it got so bad he had to drop out. Every step was excruciating. He called his crew and was collected and brought back to the next aid station. Took his tracker off, changed out of his clothes, the race was done. A physio from Cork (who didnā€™t know your man) overhead his story at the aid station and she offered him a massage. She then suggested some dry needling. And me man starts jogging around the car park without significant pain. So, he talks to the race organisers. They agree he can go back to the point where he dropped out (which was two hours later by the time he was back there) and continue on with the race and he did it, and finished it!!

250km on an indoor track is insane

250km on any surface is insane. I saw a clip of your man walking afterwards yesterday and he still seemed to be moving ok
