Rock Shandy is named after Blackrock
A former Managing Director of C&C, Mr. Frank Murphy, was a member of the Blackrock Swimming Club that used to go swimming in the open sea baths in Blackrock. After training on a Sunday morning they would go to O’Rourkes pub in Blackrock for a drink. Their favourite drink was a combination (shandy) of Club Orange and Club Lemon from whence came the name, Rock Shandy.

Most of the tracks on Roxy Music’s eight and final album ‘Avalon’, were written by Bryan Ferry while staying on the west coast of Ireland, at Crumlin Lodge in Inverin, Connemara. Ferry maintains his surroundings contributed to the dark melancholy of the album.
Bryan Ferry’s girlfriend (and soon to be wife) Lucy Helmore appeared on the album cover wearing a medieval helmet with a falcon perched on her gloved hand, evoking King Arthur’s last journey to the mysterious land of Avalon. The picture was shot overlooking Lough Ugga Beg near Inverin.
Helmore, who divorced from Ferry in 2003, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in July 2018, aged 58, while staying at her brother Ed’s B&B near Newquay in north Clare. She had suffered with depression for many years.
Lucy’s sad passing wasn’t the first tragedy to befall her family in Ireland. Lucy’s father Patrick Helmore died in a fire at his home in Crumlin Lodge, Connemara in 1997, where Ferry had penned Avalon 16 years earlier.

The nominal prefix ‘Fitz’ came over to England after the Battle of Hastings when William the Conqueror became the first Norman/French king of England, and thereafter that when King Henry ll of England sent Strongbow over to Ireland to claim lands there.
Fitz is derived from the French word “fils”, meaning son. Fitz came to mean “son of” especially for those born out of wedlock ie: Fitzroy = Son of the king; roy being the French for king.

Most, but not all ‘Fitz’ are of Norman descent. Some of the exceptions include Fitzpatrick, a native Gaelic surname which comes from the Irish ‘Mac Giolla Phadraig’ - *Son of the Devotee of St Patrick.
In the 16th century, as part of the process of King Henry VIII’s ‘surrender and regrant’ scheme to anglicize the Irish nobility, some members of the clan were legally obligated to render their surname as Fitz-Patrick or Fitzpatrick as part of the agreed terms with the Crown.

In 1974, the mummified body of Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses II was sent on a flight to Paris for preservation and maintenance work. Since French law required every person, living or dead, to fly with a valid passport, Egypt had to issue a passport to the Pharaoh, 3,000 years after his death.

Woody Harrelson’s father, Charles Harrelson, was a hitman. As in a full-on hitman, gun-for-hire who has been accused and tied to several murders, most famously that of a federal judge.
Charles Harrelson once claimed he was behind the JFK assassination too, only to immediately retract this. According to Woody Harrelson, his father was trained by the CIA and told him about this in some detail.
The actor himself refused to dive deeper into this in public because doing so “might be dangerous for him and his family”.
The crazy story doesn’t end here — Harrelson senior was a bit of a “rolling stone” back in the day, and a womanizer.
Around the time the actor Matthew McConaughey was conceived, his mother had reportedly hooked up with Charles Harrelson, hitman-for-hire. As a result, both Harrelson and McConaughey have publicly stated in a recent interview it’s fairly possible the two men are half-brothers.
