Things That Are Wrong

the clue is in their name

Cunts at supermarket checkouts, who are too mean to buy a bag, and then proceed to try and jam everything into their rucksack/handbag/pockets and end up dropping shit everything. Tight fuckers, buy a fucking bag you cunt.

… that IT lads have to press a button in order to install and make it seem as if it is the biggest deal in the world when you ask them to do it.

Same way you just press a button on your calculator and all the accounts are done.

Unless you work in an actual IT company then chances are you are in IT support which relies on non IT nerd people (ie ordinary folk) making fuck ups in order for you blokes to justify your existence.

Farmer makes a good point here

I await the runt’s rejoinder with interest

Not particularly, although they are a necessary evil of the job.

IT companies will have small IT departments as they will expect their users to have some common sense and as such trust them to do some things for themselves.
Financial Companies will have massive IT departments as the beancounters will know everything about IT cause they’ve being using Excel for years and have great puters at home, most users won’t have local admin rights cause the lusers will just fuck everything up if they did

So if everyone was computer literate would you have anything to do all day?

Except from running back-ups at night - which is probably system instigated anyway but it needs someone to put the tapes in a fire proof safe.

I shouldn’t go off on one really at IT lads, in fairness one of the lads in my place of work is sound and also possesses the ability to converse with another human being, unknown of with most IT blokes I have encountered in my time.

I’d say correcting user error accounts for maybe 25-30% of my day. I’m not going to go all MGG on it and put up my daily schedule but there’s a fuck load that goes on behind the scenes so you can while away your days on the internet, sending emails etc.

If all your clients had learnt their 12 Times Tables properly would you have anything to do all day?

But surely once the system is up and running then all that stuff that goes on behind the scenes is more or less done - isn’t it a matter of maintaining it really?

Which means most of your time is spent dealing with ‘users’, as you call them?

Only that IT lads seem unable to deal with the average human being.

IT professionals having their social skills critiqued by the accountants here

Only going on my experience of them is all.

 I was just about to say that. The Things That Are Wrong thread is far too noble to be sullied by an argument between an accountant and an IT guy.

If that was the case Farmer would it not make more sense for companies to send all their staff on IT training courses and not have to pay an IT guy a salary?

I assume you’re on the wind-up because otherwise it’s a bit rich for somebody who hasn’t one iota about I.T. beyond Internet Explorer and Excel to be saying there’s nothing to keeping an IT system going.

I know more about IT than you do bro.

You know more about everything Flano.

Flano just knows, OK?

an accountant accusing an IT person of having problems communicating with other humans

another classic pot/kettle moment

Ignoring every hint of sarcasm that may be present in that post. Thank you Fisty.

No sarcsm at all Flano. I’ve always viewed you as being the Chuck Norris of TFK - you know, Chuck Norris doesn’t sleep, he waits…
