Those who have poor eyesight

I have had consultations with Optical Express in Tallaght and the Wellington Clinic in the Beacon.

OE was 2k per eye and Wellington 2.5k per eye. Price was the same whether it is lasek or lasik

I initially went to Optilase but they quickly knew I wasnā€™t suitable for them (thin cornea). Even though they knew I wasnā€™t suitable for their LASIK / LASEK they had me back a second time and ran a load of tests on my eyes so I would have a baseline measurement that would help me monitor the issue going forward. They didnā€™t charge me a penny for any of this.

Iā€™m getting an alternative treatment done with the Wellington Eye Clinic. Think they are generally more expensive offer more specialised procedures.

Thanks lads. I see optilase have clinic in cork so I may contact them for a consultation.

I had it in 2009. Definitely recommend.

My eyesight is still just better than 20/20 but in last six months or so can feel the reading getting worse so need reading glasses. They can do some other procedure for that too. Has anybody explored that.

I was suitable for LASIK and LASEK. I was told LASEK was slightly safer as no flap is cut in eye. Left the place wearing protective goggles and with pain medication. I had two
Days of really really bad pain and then was fine by time of check up. LASIK is pain free. LASEK - is painful for two days. Very painful.

That price isnā€™t actually too bad, thought itā€™d be more like ā‚¬10k for both

The aul lad was in the Eye and Ear today. Eyesight is fading and he can no longer read the paper. He really misses that.

Cataracts diagnosed so they can be operated on under local anaesthetic and fixed. 12 month wait but as his are so bad then can try and get it done in six months. They do one eye at a time. Doctor was lovely and a great service. She was very apologetic about the wait.

The aul lad asks if can get them done somewhere else as he has health insurance.

So the wait wonā€™t now be six or twelve months. Maybe a couple of months.

Itā€™s a two tier system alright and youā€™d feel very sorry for anybody who has to wait 12 months. Itā€™s wrong.

On the other hand youā€™d wonder in a one speed system if the equality will mean everybody has to wait 18 months.

Belfast no quicker?

You can have it done in Belfast at the weekend if youā€™re interested.
You have to shell out on the spot but the outlay is recoverable from the state. Get one done this week and another next week.
Somebody fill in the exact title of the scheme there for me. Iā€™m in a rush to bring granddaughter to violin as she calls it.

I was in town there earlier and I went to pick up by a pair of spectacles for a pal in Specsavers in the GPO arcade. The lady behind the counter spent an age looking for them in the cabinet, eventually locating them in what looked like the first receptacle she had looked in. I couldnā€™t help myself and said Should have gone to Specsavers, ha ha. I suspect this wasnā€™t the first time she had heard this remark and she gave me a cold stare that nearly froze my bollix off.

When I worked in a tile shop weā€™d give free sample tiles and a few times every day some wag would say ā€˜Iā€™ll come back every day and get the tiles for freeā€™, crack themselves up
