Tipperary GAA 2014

If you think so, get on.

get on what bet?

Fairly scathing article alright. Unusual for the Tipperary Star to be so critical. I would usually be ver slow to criticise players but the drinking really is gone beyond a joke with this team at this stage. “The Monday Club” really has the place ruined.

My bad, thought you said September. Tipp currently 6/1 to lift Liam.

Not like Noel Dundon to go after the players like that at all, Noel is usually a very refrained character so something pretty bad must of went down Monday.

Its a sign of how bad things are really. The Tipperary Hurling public are pure sick of this carry on. Bad enough to lose to Limerick, but to spend the next 2 days on the beer, not giving a fuck, is showing a complete lack of respect for the Tipperary jersey.

Tipperary always expect to beat Limerick.

Maybe that kind of attitude crept its way into the Tipperary setup, if so we will win fuck all going forward if we don’t respect the opposition.

You must always expect to win. No point going out with a defeatist attitude regardless of who you are playing.

Agreed, but respect for your opponents is key to having the right mentality to perform imo.

Minor shock with Killenaule beating Moyle Rovers, the rest as expected.

What’s the incident in 2009 that Sheedy is alluding to in the below article? The only one I can remember is possibly with the U21s after the Munster Final.

Liam Sheedy says stories of Tipperary’s two-day drinking session after last weekend’s defeat to Limerick were blown out of proportion.

After the Premier County were knocked out of the Munster SHC on Sunday, some of the players allegedly took to the pubs of Thurles, with local journalist Noel Dundon writing:

“Word of a drowning of sorrows on Sunday evening and again on Monday in and around Thurles have left supporters very angry and questioning where Tipperary are going.”

Former Tipp manager Sheedy, who led the county to All-Ireland glory four summers ago, points out that these things can happen in any sport:

“It’s just a reality when you lose. Those things become spotlight news whether you are an English Premiership soccer player or a hurler from Tipperary,” the Portroe clubman told The Irish Times.

"Look, it was there when I was manager. There was one match after 2009 when we made headline news over socialising but it didn’t stop us from getting within eight minutes of winning the big prize in September. Some of those things can be blown out of proportion. I’m not privy to what went on.

“Every county craves success. I suppose we have a habit in Tipp of not being the most patient of counties. I remember I was lucky I wasn’t turfed out myself after losing to Cork in 2010. That’s the nature of the game. It’s a results game.”

They went on the beer on the Monday after the munster final and got hammered down in Waterford on the Wednesday night.

Sheedy would be better off keeping his beak out of this one, he had a job to round the crew up for a flight home from Spain after a booze up on a training trip. Glass houses etc.

Personally, I am delighted a relatively mild mannered writer such as Dundon highlighted this issue. Amateurs or not, this Tipp panel need to recognise the responsibility they must shoulder playing for Tipp. Otherwise they should fuck off & leave lads who are interested in.
