How could running a marathon even come into your head when you are in a county final.

Because maybe he was committed to running and fundraising for a cause close to his heart.

Life isn’t simple.

Ah come here mate. Shouldn’t cost him a thought. Can’t he run it next year.

That looks fierce forced and staged if I’m honest

A most enjoyable spectacle in Thurles today both on and off the field.

Kildangan started like a house on fire and were cutting through the Kilruane backline like a knife through butter. 0-04 to 0-01 up after 5 minutes and then winning a penalty when in on goal. It looked like it could be one sided.

The penalty was pure theatre as Barry Hogan made his way up the field to take it. He was jostled and accosted by most of the Kilruane team. He struck it well but a brilliant save by Williams put it out for a 65. It was like Van Nistelrooy against Arsenal in 2003? as he went back to his own goal. Almost a full scale brawl ensued but the official Conor Doyle took no action and it was play on. Kildangan scored the resulting 65 and lead 0-05 to 0-01. All going well. Things got even better for them when Tom O’Meara goaled but slowly Kilruane started to settle and steady the ship. Despite Kildangan playing well they only went in 5 up at the break. Still a very good position to be in.

The second half can only be described as a complete meltdown from Kildangan as an inspired Kilruane completely took over. Right from the throw in they cut the deficit and were level within 10 minutes. Kildangan needed cool heads to take the sting out of it, but instead completely lost it. Three missed frees in a row from McLoughney (who was probably their best forward) were a killer. Seymour was then brought on to hit them - in fairness he didnt miss. Kilruane eventually inched ahead before a goal from Cian Darcy gave them a 4 point cushion they never relinquished. Niall O’Meara, Aaron Morgan, O’Neill, McAdams and Cleary x3 were all very good. Jerome Cahill was quiet enough but played a key role in some late scores. An injury time goal from Trigger sealed the win. It was funny finishing up when they brought on cult hero Brian Buggy O’Meara. Buggy is meant to be coach and gone huge altogether but still got his few minutes at the end. Great to see likes of him and Seamus Hennessy be on the pitch for the final whistle. Eoin Hogan (wing back on 2006 AI Minor Winning Tipp team) is even older than both and had retired a few years ago but was back and played the full 60 minutes today. A warrior.

For Kildangan you wouldn’t know what to make of them. They threaten to cut loose at different stages but never seem to click. A lot of county players but as a team seem less than the sum of their parts. Willie Connors was taken off after 40 minutes and isnt the same player as pre injury. Why they left him inside in full forward line and not out around the middle was strange. Sean Hayes another potential Tipp Senior taken off. Billy Seymour was dropped after not making half time in drawn game. He was the star of the show in Tipp’s U20 winning team of 2019. Alan Flynn was only ok while Quigley was a bit better but out of position at centre back. They got very tied up on matchups with Sweeney full back, Flynn wing back and Quigley at 6. Tadhg Gallagher was corner back for a spell as things collapsed in the second half.

The fall out will be big there. Coach Egan will come under huge scrutiny. They took off Chucky Moran before half time and his direct opponent got 2 goals in the second half. Between Coach Egan, Sean Treacy, George Hannigan and Dan Hackett they have a lot of Inter County Management experience in their backroom team. The “official” manager Sean O’Meara was a Tipp Intermediate Selector a few years ago but I’m not sure he’s in charge at all. They had lads running down the steps of the stand with clip boards and all sorts trying to help them figure it out but it was of no use.

Anyway Kilruane will celebrate this right. They are a great club who have produced some serious Hall of Famers over the years like Len Gaynor, Dinny Cahill, Eamon O’Shea etc. Like Ballygunner the last time they won a County Final they went on to win an All Ireland Club and they should use that and remember their history and tradition next week when they go into the lions den as they will need every bit of it.

Serious lack of decorum here.

There is a very sophisticated and nuanced algorithm that calculates a Hall of Famer.

Surprised he didn’t throw Damien Lawlor in there

Wow, what a hero :rofl::rofl::rofl:

That’s serious loser talk.

Not really.

Like Lee Keegan commands way more respect than loads of lads who’ve won All Ireland’s.

Ken McGrath, John Mullane the same.

Len Gaynor, Eamon O’Shea and Dinny Cahill are serious, serious hurling men and what they won or didn’t win barely come into it. I really dont know why i bother sometimes.

Babs said the difference between himself and Gaynor was that he could back it up

Len has more All Irelands than Babs as a player
