I wouldnāt be a huge follower of club in Tipp, but the championship genuinely does seem box office. For all our harping on about the Limerick one, what you really want is variety yesr on year. You get that in abundance with Tipp.
Kilruane breaking a drought yesterday, Kiladangan did the same 2 years ago, the magic of L/C last year in dual. And then the other magic of Borris Ileigh in 2019. Itās incredible, so hard to predict and all the finals have been tight affairs
Sars won the four-in-a-row in 2017. Five different winners in the five years since (three of them north Tipp clubs).
We donāt have any outstanding club team that will dominate the club Championship (as can be seen by poor progression usually in Munster series) but youāve at least half a dozen teams each year in with a shot.
Tradition and heritage really are so important in sport.
Kilruane hadnāt been in a County Final in 37 years before last week yet went out and performed to their maximum. Same again yesterday when they were inspired and played above themselves probably.
Kildangan on the other hand froze in 2016 in their first final, underperformed in 2019 and again yesterday had a bit of a collapse.
The one they won in 2020, there was no one at it which probably helped them and even at that they were very lucky to come out on the right side of it.
If Kildangan had won a County Championship āagainst the headā in 2013 when they were very young and unexposed they could have won several, but as the years go by its hard to see them winning too many more.
Seems like thereās been a fair bit of tragedy in the Kilruane camp in recent times to go with what happened that night against Clonoulty. Saw an interview with Bill O Meara after the match who spoke very emotionally but very well. Nice to see a club get over a famine too.
Iām not sure and Iām not all that bothered. I just always called them Kildangan but now that you say it i think their Twitter is Kiladangan these days.
I wouldnāt get too hung up on those things and focus more on the hurling and soap opera that surrounds it.
I will say this about Kilruane McDonaghs, the hurling will have been a great distraction these past few weeks. All things being equal, that probably comes to an end next weekend.
The following few weeks are going to be especially tough for them all. The nights are long, the evenings bereft of hurling and such distractions. Itās then that itāll really hit home in many ways. God help the family and friends of Dillon during this time.
There was a great bit of Radio last night on Tipp MWR between Local Media titan Stevie OāDonnell and the West PRO Cc @Declan_Moffat
They were chatting away about Lorrhaās win and the West PRO was saying like how Lorrha had a strong management team this year with Ken Hogan as manager and Brian Carroll of Offaly as coach. Good solid men etc.
Then at the very end as an absolute afterthought he goes āYer man Brophy was involved as wellā
Kildangan have 3 villages - Puckaun, Ballycommon and Dromineer. They come right into Nenagh town too so have a big pick.
They have also done really well out of former Shannon Rovers players settling in Kildangan parish. At least 4 of yesterdays team would be of Shannon Rovers stock.
I dont know Hanniganās exact role but heās married to Kildangan stock and i presume he was keeping the show on the road early in the year when Coach Egan was in Wexford and Sean Treacy was coaching Clare. He would stand at far side of the pitch micāed up.
