Tipperary GAA 2022

interesting history even if is a little complicated

I am unsure why Killea dont just go the whole hog and fall in the Brackens full stop

Personalities or just desire\passion to remain a sort of independent republic

Clonmore bit the bullet and went that way

Are Clonmore not in with Clonakenny?

The clubs of Killea, Templemore (football) and Clonmore joined in 1992 I think . There was a narrow majority to join all 3 and form Jk brackens. John costigan was one of the main people involved.

Most resistance came from Killea and after one year they reformed there own club.

The vast majority of their young play with Brackens and anyone that’s any good generally stays on at adult level. There’s a couple of the die hards in Killea who have sons with the Brackens and wouldn’t go to see them play.

Riordan played with brackens up until his move but changed a year after. He played in a mid junior B final in 2018 or 19.

Tossy Hamill played with brackens up until u14/16 then got an agreement to play with Moyne at underage. He moved permanently at 18 or 19.

They rely on players from all over mid/north Tipp with Drom and Toome often raided plus lads who move into the area. Hard to know how sustainable it is.

Clonmore is part of the brackens.

Clonakenny have their own club, one of the smallest in the county. They are definitely punching.

Clonmore is Templemore parish. Clonakenny amalgamated with a few clubs at underage, such as Big Rob Ryan’s Knock or Moneygall.

They have had a fruitful relationship with Clonakenny at underage. Both are 50/50 in representation and there is little chance of one club out weighing the other.

Would these lads be people with parents from the area or why would they bother transferring rather than just playing junior B with their own club?

This is a grand debate I’ve kicked off here

A mix, some of them fall out with their own club , others are not good enough to make their junior B team and some move into the area.

Big Rob Ryan’s beloved Knock have a similar strategy but generally go to lads that fall out with Roscrea.

I can only speak for lads from Drom but the lads who would transfer to Killea see some sort of prestige in it; they would be mainly be levi jeans wearing types who would draw silage and drive souped up Toyota Corollas or Volkswagen Passats for life if they could. They wouldn’t be playing hurling to improve themselves.

Big Rob has dual citizenship with Roscrea

Allegiances can be fluid over that direction alright

If O’Riordan came back he wouldnt be playing with Brackens i heard.

Don’t know who he would play for because Killea don’t play football. Maybe he’s just happily settled in Australia at this stage but he’s 27 now and seems to have made very little progress out there

Brackens are talking themselves up big time for the football this year. Yer man on the Premier view podcast was very confident. A lot of people on at 10/1.

I kinda thought they might have had Riordan lined up to be back for the business end of it.

Is there an isolated player rule in Tipp? Could he rock up with Loughmore for football as an example if he came back?

Yes there is.

Ballina had a few of them last year from
kiladangan.

His prospective in laws are Brackens so going to Loughmore is probably unlikely.

He seems content in Oz.

Agreed yeve taken over from us c10 years ago hopefully Cahill will retain the Miller Shield so ye can have 5000 posts over the winter debating yere starting 15 for next year’s championship. Carry on

Meanwhile on the other thread there’s lads writing essays about Junior B matches.

If the die hards in Killea thought Riordan would be back, they’d register a football team and not bother their hole fielding just to spite Brackens.
