Tipperary GAA 2022

Ah yes, you are correct. I would imagine that was when Paddy Bourke was over the team but I could be wrong on that. I must go back and ask about the goalkeeping lineage.

7 since 1968 seems to be the consensus

Martin Sadlier, Jimmy Maher, Declan O Dwyer, Diarmuid Cullen, Andrew Fryday, West PRO, Festy.

DOD and Fryday bringing the longevity.

I saw a programme posted up on Facebook from the 2001 quarter finals I think. Andrew was in goals still and DOD was the sub.

Last minute goal from Fergal Horganā€™s son Conor takes it to Extra Time.

Jimmy Maher was given the nod a lot in goal under Dan Quirke (2013), Michael Ferncombe (2014 & 2015) and under Paddy Bourke in 2021 when Dec Dwyer retired.

Declan Dwyer didnā€™t miss a game Iā€™d say from 2016 until his retirement in 2020 and was obviously there from 2007 onwards most of the time. Jimmy Maher spent a lot of this time in America, not being around at all for the 2018 county final win. Hes playing midfield this year.

If Dwyer was a sub in 2001, he served some apprenticeship as Fryday was still there till about 2006 Iā€™d say.

This was the only place Iā€™ve mentioned Declan in years, and this morning he shows up as a recommended connection on LinkedIn. Big data.

Kilruane by two. Sounds like a humdinger. Buggy off the bench for a goal.

What sort of injury did Hennessy get exactly that hobbled him. His nickname was/is Fez or Kez i think?
He was a super hurler underage

Fez. We ended up sitting beside a mate of his at the 2010 final (he was barely on and scored Tippā€™s last point (Lar would later get another goal of course)). Fully expected great things ahead, but late 2010/early 2011, he did the knee, and it never came right. An awful pity.

Think heā€™s played every line of the field for Kilruane in the intervening years. They stuck him full back one year so he could just face the ball as much as possible. Unreal hands.

He stood out on those excellent Minor/U21 teams from 2007-2010, he was probably the missing midfielder/half back from 2011 onward. A shame

Yeah. I remember my auld lad talking to his father up at Nenagh Golf Club (which is actually in Kilruane) maybe around 2014/15. His father maintained that his best position would actually have been half forward, but Iā€™d say a lot of people were eyeing him up for the half back position that Dec Fanning was vacating at the end of 2010.

I think his mam committed suicide at some stage in the past decade and Seamus has written very eloquently about his experiences since, and has organised some fundraising for mental health too. A sound skin

Yep - that happened when he was a child (Iā€™m guessing about 20 years+ ago). His father is a very nice man. Met him at a lot of matches.

That Kilruane team had its fair share of tragedy from what I can recall.
