Tonight's TV - Continuation of earlier drivel

He’s another James Corden, a guy who has made his name by being a jolly, obese chap.

He seems fairly harmless, in fairness, but it wasn’t exactly cutting edge journalism. Man denounces mob breaking into a building.

Orla Guerin had her big publicity in the early to mid 90s . She was a Labour Party candidate in euro election in the 1990s and Bernie Malone sent her home with tae in a mug .

It isn’t very puzzling at all . The Irish media establishment are huge fans of the Democrats

Donie should be sending a thank you card to the other Donie, Donie Trump. The 6th of January last year was the day Donie got lucky

From fairly early on in the initial lockdown I was watching CNN most nights. I reckon their ratings in Ireland rocketed (not they would care or notice). Trump’s daily pronouncements were compulsive viewing along with all of the other political spin and partisan media.

I think it’s only natural that there is a bit of interest in a young fella from Cahirciveen that ended up at the centre of the reporting.

Agreed. A little fat lad that is as Irish as bacon and cabbage. If he had a mid Atlantic accent fellas would be giving out for 100 different reasons

Ah you’re right, but I’d love it if he came back and took one of the prime RTE slots though…like if the pricks knew he was coming and they just let it hang as to what he would be doing…there’d be no ‘National Treasure’ then out of them.

He is well up to it too, he can broadcast. I could absolutely see the guy reading text messages and newspaper articles on the radio…

I think the sentiment is largely if this ordinary Joe soap/mucksavage can make something of himself in America then we all can. But the Paddywhackery is totally off the scale now. He kind of fits the Brendan O Carroll narrative as well as someone who could be overlooked or not thought that much of at home but who translates elsewhere.

Paddywhackery is something I detest with every fiber of my being. It’s nothing but self-loathing

I can remember them making a fuss over them.

Donie seems to wind some people up something fierce. I find it strange that anybody would be so wound up by him.

I think it peaked in 2016 when fellas were changing tyres and singing odes on the Champs Elyses during the euros but there is probably a bit more self awareness about it now. I agree it is not a good look.

Donie is a harmless auld sort who has done very well for himself. We really hate to celebrate successful Irish people abroad. He’s no Enda Brady, that’s for sure but he has the twee angle covered off well.

Donie has a nice way about him. He’s reminiscent of Bill O’Herlihy in the way he quietly stirs the pot and gets loudmouths to demonstrate the sheer insanity of the whole Trump cult just by asking obvious questions.

Good example here.

Donie seems a harmless sort. I don’t get the Irish media obsession with him though. There’s been Irish journalists working on camera on foreign TV channels for donkey’s years. Some would often pop up unexpectedly on RT, France 24 or Euronews as you flicked the channels. But none of them became a “thing” like Donie. I can only presume it’s the yank paddywackery angle.

In fairness, he covered the biggest news story in about 2 decades. It was always going to garner interest.

Exactly

Media figures milks attention to gain further media interest is hardly susprising now is it!

RT is a pro-Russia propaganda channel. Nobody watches France 24 and about three people watch Euronews.

People are understandably curious about Donie because he played a central role in CNN’s coverage of a fascist coup against democracy in the US and has been covering the emergence of fascist insanity in the US for a good few years now.

The Irish are utterly obsessed with America

He’s interviewing some toothless redneck simpletons. Hardly storming the banks of the Ebre now.

He’s showing what Trumpism and conservatism in America is. They are what it is, or at least they are the useful idiots that are whipped up by its obscenely rich, kleptocratic cult leaders. All fascism thrives on useful idiots.

There isn’t any intellectual underpinning at all behind Trumpism and American conservatism, only greed, nihilism, hatred, stupidity, and a mass propaganda-led con job.

Any journalism that demonstrates that is more than valid.
