Californication is back, watched first two episodes, same ol same ol, which is grand, but you’d be wondering have they anywhere to go at this point. Shock value gone for the most part, we wait to see if they have anythink else up their sleeve.
Watched the first 3 eps of The Walking Dead, pleasantly surprised, wasnt expectiing much but it strikes me as a fine lil show with some possible potential.
By the same people who developed the US Office - Greg Daniels et al. Poor reviews for the first series but second series seemed to get very positive reviews.
Got through the first season of Arrested Development during the week. I’ve made a huge mistake not watching it until now. Great show in fairness. Strange in that almost all the characters are likeable and well worth their screen time. That’s rare for any show. Tobias, Buster, and Gob make most of the episodes though. I think it’s a bit inconsistent at times but one of those three always pops up with a brilliant line or two to make the episode worthwhile. Gob in particular is hilarious. The bit where he’s talking about the two girls in the box and he says “Word really gets around in there”  fucking magnificent. He’s the star for me.
it is top class in fairness…them yanks are normally poor enough at making ironic comedies, but i loved Arrested Development…Henry Winklers character is excellent when he comes into it in later series
Arrested Development is brilliant, i have the whole thing on DVD and must get around to watching them again. Gob is the best character in it IMO, the episodes with the prostitute are brilliant and the one with his latino girlfriend, i won’t go into it too much so as not to ruin it for WTB. Also, Tobias has some great moments such as the time he joined the blue man group.
has anyone here ever watched “the riches”,a show from a couple of years back starring minnie driver and eddie izzard about a family of irish traveller scam artists…has good reviews online thinking of giving it a go… seems like something a bit different could be wrong though…have watched the first few episodes of the comedy “raising hope”…not sure what the make of it has a fair few genuine laugh out loud moments gonna give it a few more episodes before i make up my mind on it…
Is Friday Night Lights not the most clichéd, formulaic drivel ever broadcast? I watched 3 or 4 episodes I think and they all had the same ending with that young QB recovering from early nerves to throw game winning TDs.
I think the start of the first series is a bit like what you describe.
It gets much much better series on series.
You end up with dozens of really good characters in a well scripted well acted drama.
I’d give it another try Rocko.
There is a bit of the “All American Hero” alright, but in fact they are almost poking fun at it in ways after a while. AD Cluain says the football becomes only a small part of it. You kinda have to watch the first season to get to know the characters, but from about midway through that onwards it gets better and better.
Like any good drama you start taking an interest in the characters.
