Up in the Air looks good from what I’ve read, nearly a comedy type of thing? What’s Invictus about.

Think The Road is out here next week. Cracking book, not sure what sort of reception the film got.

Up in the Air is meant to be class, Clooney and young Reitman at their best. Basically a fella who goes around sacking people I think.

Invictus is a movie of a book written about Mandela and how he used the Springbok side of 95 to unite the country with Francois Pienaar’s help. Matt Damon plays Pienaar, Morgan Freeman plays Mandela and its directed by Clint Eastwood.

The Road is getting great reviews, Viggo Mortennson has been singing its praises and his young co stars performance for quite some time, I have high hopes for it.

Ah right that movie, presumed that was called Mandela or something. Yeah looks good.

Did The Road get any Golden Globe nominations? Thought it would be an awardsy sort of film if it was well received. Saw the trailer in the cinema a couple of months back, looked good.

Got no nominations I think. Really loved the book myself-thought it would be difficult to make into a movie so it will be interesting to see the result (Omar from The Wire makes an appearance too)

Who may I ask is Des Cashin?

I love you man was an abomination, STar Trek disappointed me, Drag me to Hell just seems to be gore overload, haven’t watched it all yet though.

Special Prizes for Hating-Yet-Kinda-Liking-It: Antichrist; Australia; The Proposal

Am ashamed to say, I have seen the proposal, and I would grudgingly agree, grudgingly.

Unintentional Comedies of the Year: Split between GI Joe and Orphan

AH GI Joe, the Gaelic language part of it is truly wonderful, a good shout.

Neither-Loved-Nor-Hated-It-‘Meh’-Awards of the Year: District 9; Avatar

Yet to see Avatar, but thats harsh on District 9 coming from a lad who talked up fucking I love you man.

Worst Movies of the Year:

  4. Seven Pounds
  5. Bruno
  6. He’s Just Not That Into You
  7. GI Joe
  8. Wolverine
  9. New Moon
  10. The Reader

I’d say Synedoche is an absolute brain fuck, cant see myself ever watching it. Have 7 Pounds and The Ugly Truth and will give both a spin at some point. Didnt think The Reader was all that bad. He’s Just Not That Into You is a harsh call, far worse out there. Wolverine was an abomination.

Performances of the Year:

  1. Mo’Nique, Precious

  9. George Clooney, Up in The Air

Best On-Screen Couple:

No arguments about Waltz, outstanding. The rest, meh.

Despite not being a cinema goer for the guts of five years now, I am planning to get back into it. Is there any film in the cinema at the moment that I should definitely go and see?

Up In The Air is on on Jan 15th.

The Road is out this weekend.

The Lovely Bones is out at the end of January and is one I’m really looking forward to. Directed by Peter Jackson, starring Saoirise Ronan its about a girl who is raped and murdered, but who looks on from purgatory as she watches her family come to terms with the after affects, while trying to help them find her murderer. Its getting great reviews and Ronan will get awards by all accounts.

Invictus is out in February.

Crazy Heart is out in mid February, another one I’m really looking forward to. Stars Jeff Bridges and Colin Farrell as C&W singers and is again getting very good buzz for both actors.

Scorseses latest with DiCaprio is Shutter Island, its set in the 50’s in a mental asylum that Caprio visits in his role as a US Marshall searching for an escaped patient. Mark Ruffalo also stars.

And then there’s the elephant in the room, Avatar, at 3 hours its being called Dances With Wolves in space, but I still think it has to be seen in 3D for what it is.

Good stuff lads.

Cheers.

Avatar in 3d is excellent. Hope cinema continues to move in this direction.

Really looking forward to The Lovely Bones.

I’m expecting Jackson to provide a decent adapation and from the clips I’ve seen Saoirse Ronan is showing some of the form she displayed in the early stages of her career.

I’m not sure I could sit in a cinema for long enough to watch Avatar. Between the 20 mins of trailers at the start and the actual run-time I’d struggle. I do hear it’s worth it though.

downloaded Invictus & Lovely Bones over the christmas will look forward to watching them some night.

I also downloaded and watched The Invention Of Lying with Ricky Gervais, normally I love his stuff but this one left me a be flat.

I think you have to see Avatar in 3D to appreciate it, kinda like having to watch Jurassic Park on the big screen to appreicate it back in the day.

I’ve always found Gervais to be an annoying cunt myself. Saw it there be downloaded but gave it a wide berth. What kid of quality torrent is the lovely bones? I didnt see any dvdrip or screeners up of it, only camvids?

Declan Cashin is a mate of mine from Kilkenny who we previously discussed in the Shaving thread, who kisses boys, and works for the Independent reviewing films and meeting movie stars among other things…

I can see how Gervais can come across as a bit annoying but surely you recognise The Office as being pure quality?

I think him being annoying is a positive in The Office, whereas in his films I don’t think he is meant to be that annoying. I think he is meant to be something near annoyingly charming. But he’s not, he’s just annoying.

I enjoyed aspects of the office, but for the most part, its humour wasn’t for me. I never really “got” cringe humour. I realise I am in a minority on this one. Perhaps thats why I detest Cooper.
