Useless cagers and annoying habits
How do most people drive on the motorway?

I must confess that I more or less stay in the overtaking lane. I generally go quite fast on the motorway (120 speed limit is ridiculous) so it can be annoying to constantly go in and out passing out cars. I constantly keep an eye in my rear view mirror for cars coming behind me that are travelling at a faster speed and I am out of their way straight away. Then I generally head back into the overtaking lane again.

Sometimes you have cars doing a faster speed in the left lane so my moving in there will only cause them having to move out into the right lane so I stay where I am and let them pass me on the inside. That is only if there is a clear run for them on the inside. I know it’s not right but it’s not the end of the world.

Plus if you’re doing 90mph on a motorway then cars shouldn’t really be going any faster than that.

Someone told me recently that if the second turn-off on a roundabout is past the 12 o’clock position then you go into the right hand lane approaching it. I was under the impression that you always went into the left lane for taking the second turn-off. Can someone clear this up?
So, for all your bile spilt on this board against what you term bad drivers, it now turns out that you are also a shit driver. Idiot.

Well I’m not on the fooking Autobahn. Just to clarify, it only pisses me off if I’m in the process of overtaking. If I’m just toddling along in the outside lane for no reason then I’m fair game for flashing lights

Thanks for the clarification. That is perfectly reasonable.

the roundabouts getting on and off the ennis by-pass seem to be creating awful headaches for mullocker drivers. you have three lanes an and two lanes out. most people haven’t a clue which lane to use.

stupid fcukers.

You should get them to try the Walkinstown roundabout. That place is like a demolition derby of a friday afternoon

Agreed and then for dessert try the Leopardstown Roundabout.

ah ya but country folk would never pass the red cow park and ride.

I call it smart driving. Instead of idiots jumping in and out of lanes all the time.

Like you do obviously.

Gas thread to read for someone who doesn’t drive.

Fran lists some bad habits he sees on the roads and in a throwaway sentence he mentions his driving style when he’s ‘hungover’!

Farmer explains how he sits on the speeding limit in the ‘overtaking lane’ forcing other cars to pass out on the inside.

Strewth.

No I didn’t.

If you know what you’re doing its not.

Stay off my patch by the way all you boyos.

Just quoted the relevant parts. You forget posting this earlier Farmer?

And where on that does it say I sit on the speeding limit?

Why the fuck don’t you just pull in for the car behind?

You imply it in your last sentence. You happily stay in the overtaking lane travelling at a lesser speed than cars approaching from behind and force them to overtake inside you. You have no right to be in the overtaking lane if you’re not overtaking. You should be in the inside lane and it’s ridiculously dangerous driving. As Gman said, you’re not there to police the roads and nor are you there to be a designated pacemaker. What you’re engaging in is terribly dangerous driving.

I do. Read the post.

I prefer bandages version

No. If I see a car approaching at speed in the inside lane and if the lane in front of him is clear then I will stay in the right lane so as to save him coming back into the right lane. I am not blocking him in any way. But if pulls into the right lane then I am out of his way into the left lane.

Just to be clear. If a car comes flying behind me in the overtaking lane then I get out of his way staight away.

Fair enough. You treat a motorway like a game of dodge 'ems, shuffling back and forth across lanes instead of staying in the one you’re supposed to.

That’s probably all the driving you are used to. http://www.thefreekick.com/board/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif
