Here is the fiasco that was the whole Rule 42 ‘debate’. 20 years ago, the GAA – or a really large portion of it, rather – started saying in effect they no longer owned their main stadium. The idea that a soccer club is entitled to use a GAA facility arose at that moment. Hence we also had the more significant fiasco around Liam Miller’s testimonial in 2018. A soccer club is no more entitled to use a GAA facility than I am entitled to go for a swim in a lake on a golf course. We are talking about private property, not a public park.

The truth is that there is a far higher class of a volunteer in a GAA club, generally speaking, than in a soccer club. Soccer, among other aspects, is a failure of taste.

This is all correct.
I think that any GAA club should be allowed to allow anyone they want to use their facilities though. It’s not something that should be under central dictat, I don’t think. Sport, especially team sport in any form, should be facilitated wherever possible.
It should be up to the individual club to balance out the use/overuse Vs the financial side of things, just as they should be entitled to refuse if they wish.
The more team sport, the better for the population on the whole (though there are obvious caveats)

I am not even slightly bitter about anything. Then again, my emotional life does not centre on 22 multi millionaires moving around a pitch in an English city. So I have that advantage.

I do like bitters in a gin and tonic, though.

That was some point that Ozzie kicked for Mount Sion in that Junior Football match. He could nearly get Footballer of the Year on the back of that one score alone.

Very enjoyable football match.

As good an excuse as any to get together for a drinking session in the winter.

I played in an intermediate final for Mount Sion. We didn’t have a football for the warm up, so we asked the opposition (Killure) for a lend of one of theirs. In fairness to them they obliged.

It would have been 6 if the Brickeys supporters hadn’t run a load of horses on to pitch to get the final abandoned in what became known as the “Giddy Up” county final.

Sure we should have beaten them this year. They’ve had a run of great club players, the Mahonys, Coughlan, Soki, but it isn’t younger they’re getting. Apart from young Fitzgerald what’s coming through isn’t an upgrade on them.

I dunno…apart from Sion giving them a rattle this year they’ve been 15 points better than every team the last 3/4 years, don’t think Dessie has been the differentiator
