Great result for Waterford as it turned out.

They’ve beaten Kilkenny for the first time since 1959 and that can’t be overestimated as a psychological barrier cleared.

The cockiness in believing that a game is won before it’s over will surely have been bred out of them now.

They won while playing badly, came back when they were on the ropes, and proved they’re fit enough and strong enough.

90 minutes of knockout hurling under their belts.

Shanahan’s confidence restored after a trademark Shanahan Saturday night extra-time goal.

Clare turned in a similar performance against Wexford at the same stage in 2013. There was nothing in that Clare performance to suggest that team would be All-Ireland winners either.

Waterford proved they can turn it on in Croke Park last year after taking a hiding in a previous game and they can do it again.

The cockiness in believing that a game is won before it’s over will surely have been bred out of them now.

It hasn’t

They drew with a team that eventually got a hiding in the final

Ah jayzis. In Kilkenny since 1973 and you stuck with Limerick

Were you born in Kilkenny mate?

Nope. Limerick

The shite should be kicked of you, Mike. Masquerading as a Limerick man for all these years.

Past performance is no indicator of future results.

Clare drew with Wexford in 2013.

Kilkenny got a hiding from Galway in 2012.

Tipperary lost at home to Limerick, who subsequently lost to Cork, in 2014.

QED Clare were going nowhere in 2013, Kilkenny couldn’t beat Galway in 2012, Tipperary would ship a hiding from Cork in 2014.

I’ve had the shite kicked out of me since 73

I honestly don’t know as I’m so far removed from it now.

The county board need to take a leaf out of Cody’s book and be ruthless here though.

When the same team dished out the hiding to both Waterford and Kilkenny last year then I think its a fairly good indicator that neither team were near as good as the team that gave them the hidings

And that same team lost to Cork and beat Westmeath by only 9 points this year which is a fairly good indicator that that team might not be as good this year as it was last year.
