I just don’t understand the belligerence, this is not really mandatory, no mire than jaywalking, maybe if it’s your workplace but I believe we’re talking about the public here where the worst thing that can happen is that somebody tuts at you
Now for various reasons a lot of people are terrified of the virus (opportunity for somebody to have the 6498766 dig at RTE), you can’t tell by looking at them who they are or what they look like, it might be the woman who has to work in Dunnes or the girl in the petroleum station, what harm can it do you to put on a mask for a few minutes, why would you add to anybody’s anxiety, for what reason?
It may be a placebo but there’s a place for them as well at times like this

I dont get why the huge backlash to wearing a mask. If you dont think it works or will do anything, then grand. But whats the harm if it does help. Wearing no mask definitely doesnt do anything to help. Cloth masks being worn I wouldnt suspect are being worn for long periods of time around the same people, its generally being worn in public transport or shopping areas. In other requirements, whether medical settings or if a requirement in an office or something I would say that people should be using a more medically approved mask. But for the majority, using a clean cloth mask will do more help than wearing nothing at all.
none of the above is a long term solution though. fuck wearing masks til eternity.

I dont think there’s a huge backlash on here to wearing them , more so that the gov know they cant provide adequate masks so we’re all pretending a home made bit of cloth is doing something… If they are making it mandatory, give us the proper equipment - if not, you’re merely making it obligatory to make other people feel good - which is a bizarre bit of coercion.
sure you can say that about a shit load of things. Seat belts, helmets, vaccines whatever. it removes your personal choice but by not doing it you are potentially contributing to someone elses detriment. Its a real case of not wanting to do what the government says just for the sake of being contrary.
What’s stopping you getting your own top of the line mask? For a fella that’s not bothered you’re fairly prattling on about it all morning

I’ve tried to source one but i’ve no idea if they are legit medically approved - there’s a lot of cowboys selling them — and the few sites I found that appeared legit there was a huge wait time - I presume most hospitals have them sown up.

The ECDC have the same stance - as well you know — that’s why masks were not made mandatory from the off here - they are held in reserve for medical staff.
Great to see the majority of rural lads hold up their tradition of being complicit at all times - they cant handle the boss man being critiqued… a tradition passed down to them no doubt.
