Wexford GAA 2009

Is Willie Sunderland training them, Gavin?

Correct indeed on the first point. Tipp teams were to the fore in this as they often are with three of the four semi-finalists being from the Premier County. Moycarkey-Borris won it out, beating Kilruane McDonaghs in the final on a scoreline of 8-9 to 4-something or other, 4-15 I think.

He is indeed…won 1 23 to 1 18 today. Anyone know who won liam mellows match?

Newish Wexford GAA site www.wexfordgaa.ie generally has all the scores up pretty quickly these days, Gav.

Thanks bandage, just checked there. Shamrocks gave them a awful hiding…have interest in it cause Damian Scallan (eamonns brother) was training me this year.

Forgot to ask, what have ya against oulart

Far, far too many incidents to mention, Gavin.

st.james’ ladies gave gusserane a hammering this afternoon with final score beeen 5-16 to 2-01 in junior a county final

Ah here, delete this shite

Hurling is finished in Wexford, let’s move on. I can’t be arsed heading down home for the senior quarter finals this weekend but I predict wins for St Martin’s, St Anne’s, Oulart-The Ballagh and Buffer’s Alley.

On another note, there’s so much wrong below - where do you even start with these gombeens? And a final thing, that fucking idiot from Clonard would want to shut up at county board meetings too.

From The Wexford People:

Pitch problems didn’t help the county’s cause

Wednesday September 09 2009

PROBLEMS FACING inter-county managers with training facilities were described as a major difficulty at the monthly meeting of the County Board last week.

County Chairman, Ger Doyle, said it was a serious issue. While they are thankful to the clubs who made facilities available, it’s something they will have to look at, as the Ferns development is some two years down the road.

The Chairman also stressed at the conclusion of the debate that when the managers are being discussed at the next meeting, the only thing that will not be given out is the financial package. If a delegate requires information he can come up to the top table and ask the Chairman or Secretary.

The Chairman said they had St. Patrick’s Park where the hurling and football training will take place on the pitch, with the other training in the Showgrounds. It will cost a bit of money as they have a little work to carry out on the pitch.

The Chairman also emphasised that on one occasion they had 30 players with no pitch to train on, but Oulart facilitated them at the last minure.

The lack of training facilities was one of the major concerns of managers when they held a meeting to review the year.

ā€˜We want to meet with the managers to discuss 2010. We hope that meeting will take place over the coming days. We will report back to the County Board meeting on its outcome,’ said the Chairman.

However, OylegateGlenbrien delegate, Sen Quirke, said that heretofore the ratification of managers was the remit of the County Board, while Buffers Alley delegate, Tony Doran, asked that details of the meeting be included in the management minutes sent out to delegates as they should not just be told on the night.

Doran also felt every Board member should know the details of the managers’ appointment. Last year a manager was sacked and no-one knew about it.

Clonard delegate, Joe Sheehan, said that if they looked back over 2009 it was a disappointing year.

ā€˜I’m not pointing the finger at anyone as everyone put in a tremendous amount of work. It’s a collective responsibility for everyone involved in the G.A.A. to look forward and it’s not a fingerpointing game,’ he said.

Sheehan said the G.A.A. should also look at admission prices in the time the country is in.

However, Leinster Council delegate, Pat Doyle, said the prices this year were similiar to 2008.

Sen Quirke said it would be remiss of the County Board not to discuss the state of hurling and football.

Ferns delegate Dominic Murphy questioned the lack of club championship games through the summer months and the amount of training of inter-county sides.

He gave as an example how Wexford drew with Roscommon in the qualifiers, yet trained up to the following Thursday until after 10 p.m. Those players had to get up for work the following day, and then travel to play Roscommon in the replay which was on Saturday. ’ When is the time for rest,’ he asked.

St. Mary’s (Rosslare) delegate Tony Kehoe said the biggest problem facing the clubs is the qualifiers.

Until something is done with the back door system, the major problems for the clubs are set to continue.

Questions were also rasied about the charter from Croke Park and training schedule, with many delegates disappointed with the preparation time for the Under-21 hurlers.

Delegates gave examples of other counties having trained from the previous November while Wexford had just five weeks to prepare.

However, the Chairman said the penalty for breach of the Croke Park charter is financial.

A renewed appeal has gone out to adults to ensure that young children stay off the pitch during half-time of games in Wexford Park after a young boy received a blow to the head at the venue on Saturday last but thankfully wasn’t seriously injured.

whos skinny scallan training this year!! is he not still playing…oh the stories i could tell ya about him…

Glynn-Barntown 1-17 St Martin’s 2-13.

Yes, the Martin’s scum are out. Ah lovely.

St Anne’s and Cloughbawn are level at 2-8 each at half time. St Anne’s were 1-6 to nil ahead early on but a series of errors by Doc O’Connor has allowed Cloughbawn back into it.

Unbelievable scenes in Wexford Park apparently.

Cloughbawn 3-14 St Anne’s 2-16.

The Cloughbawn 'keeper came up and buried a free from 30 yards out 2 minutes into injury time.

Jayz, two big shocks today alright.

Buffers Alley and Ferns are playing extra time in Wexford Park at the moment.

Buffers Alley 4-20 Ferns 4-18 after extra time. Not sure what’s going on down at home this weekend - it’s usually a struggle for teams to get into double figures for points in Wexford club hurling.

The final quarter final between Rathnure and Oulart-The Ballagh is on at the moment.

Oulart 3-18 Rathnure 0-8 with a few minutes to go. That’s quite a hiding. They’ll be unbackable favourites to win it after the two upsets yesterday. Buffers Alley and themselves in a county final would have the potential to be seriously filthy.

Sounds pretty normal for a Wexford County Final then.

They had some dirty ones in the early 1990s when Oulart were threatening their breakthrough and the Alley still had the backbone of the team that won the club All Ireland in 1989. Two neighbouring parishes and both full of inbreeding - I want violence, and I’m not fussy if it happens in a semi-final either.

Violence, contrary to what NCC believes, is what makes the local Championships great. Shur I’m a Laois man after all!
