Wexford GAA 2013

Wonderful Wexford (you’ve started something here Bandage)

How’d he pull him?

Greg Jacob will surely be next.

Great comeback by the footballers yesterday with Molloy, Waters and Banville immense.

Brosnan had a dire first half but started, literally, getting in Quinn’s face during the second half. Furlong has serious pace. We sorely miss Lyng as another option in the forwards and there’s a serious question mark over centre back, Joey did well when he came in for Murphy, and the second midfielder - Doyle wasn’t up to much.

Quinn was one of several Longford players sporting the whole white boots, socks up to the knees, bicycle shorts and/or skins look. He was trying to get Brosnan sent off in the second half and seems like a bit of a simpleton. Brosnan was poor for their goal but somebody in the half back line should surely have met yer man up. In fairness, Brosnan’s frees off the ground in those conditions were superb.

What was worse about their goal was that Quinn took a free from inside their 45 and kicked it well into their half, but he was the one who followed it on and got it back again. The very same thing happened as well late on in the second half too, he took a free, and kept running on and no one picked him up, just lucky they didnt see him to pass it. He was acting like a tool with Brosnan, was right in front of me. He ran into Brosnan, and hit him to get him out of his way, Brosnan stood up to him and Quinn went down holding his face like a big girl. Brosnan got a yellow for it. And then he did the very same thing a few minutes after, but luckily for Brosnan the linesman saw the full incident from the start and saw Quinn initiate it, so the ref warned him then.

Brosnans frees were excellent, but only 1 point from play is poor from the team. Missed a couple of handy chances and made silly mistakes at other times when attacking. Daithi Waters was excellent too, he really carried midfield.

Shane Roche was anonymous again. Sick of seeing him getting chance after chance to prove himself and then do absolutely nothing.

After three wins in a row in Fortress Blackwater, the Walsh Cup final against Dublin will be held in Wexford Park next Sunday.

The footballers are away to Armagh. Is this in Armagh City or Crossmaglen?

don´t think he has the pace to play intercounty…

I believe it will be played in the athletic grounds.

Walsh Cup final is on in Belfield now.

Ridiculous that we’ve given away home advantage to play this in UCD.

This is not your best work.

My general GAA knowledge is diminishing by the year and I know that Armagh are missing their Crossmaglen contingent…but I hardly have any knowledge of most of their team for Sunday. McKeever, Mallon and a few others are in there but there’s a load of other randomers from my perspective. There’s two Forkers in it even.

Joey Wadding is in for David Murphy in the only change for the footballers. Lee Chin will be on the bench after lining out for the hurlers last weekend.

the kick in the hole that Murphy needs hopefully.,

Bit harsh.

Hurling team named too and the omnipresent Lee Chin is on the bench for them too.

I’m not sure if Murphy will get his place this year. Think he’s been on the wane for a couple of years now and slipping back the pecking order a bit. Pace is finally catching him out I think. Was badly out of sorts on Sunday. Still a good player mind, and is a solid centre back, so wouldnt be a bad player to have on the bench to bring on.

Lee Chin

Yes, he looked a little sluggish last weekend and made some uncharacteristic errors which led to scores (pick up off the ground etc). But it’s early in the season and he’ll improve as he gets back up to speed. I think he was one of maybe a handful of players who actually played well for us last season and I think he still has an important role to play.

The defence did suffer when he wasnt playing, and the full back was far more exposed, be interesting to see how wadding goes there.

Defence also suffered from Ryan’s tactic of playing seven lines of two, really opened us up to the long ball being put in front of the full forward line and the half forward line crucifying us then with quick support play.

It’s a pity Doyle isn’t a bit bigger/taller as he has the right demeanour to play centre back.
