A couple of our half forwards seem more suited to the inside line and stopping the opposition from launching attacks wouldn’t be their strong point. That’s a slight concern for me but we have the likes of McGovern who can play further outfield if we want to switch Guiney or Morris closer to goal. I’m immensely looking forward to tomorrow’s game.
I’ve been quiet enough on the topic of tomorrows game, mainly because I expect a victory by no less than 7 points and my attention is already gone to a Leinster Final showdown with our neighbours in what will be our first game in Croke Park this decade
have seen someone in the supporters site say the team for Sunday is named as:
Fanning
Ryan O Hanlon Rossi
Chin Shore C.Kenny
O’Keefe H Kehoe
Morris Doran Guiney
Jacob McDonald McGovern
so no real surprises there, but at least there is starting to be some depth to the squad and options on the bench.[/QUOTE]
At the risk of repeating myself why do Wexford play Chin anywhere other than midfield? I have only seen him hurl 6 games - 3 in hb or hf line and 3 in midfield. He was poor in all games bar the ones he played at midfield where he was excellent
Playing midfield showcases his athleticism but he’s probably played more hurling through the age groups in the half back line and is well capable of excelling there too.
I was up very early this morning and completed my hip strength and flexibility exercises in my folks’ garden in Wexford. I drank a lot of water during this period.
I dressed and showered before enjoying a 3-course breakfast and we set off for Portlaoise just after 11am. I’m now in the car but I really, really need to have a piss.
I expect Young Hurler of the Year elect Conor McDonald to have a big game for Wexford today.
Will Eoin Moore be fit? Where would he slot in? Probably the half back line as the full back line was excellent today and young Liam Ryan had a fine game (scored a tremendous point too)
Where should Chin play? He was playing decently at right half back until McManus started to get on some ball in the centre and he was switched inside onto him. McManus won that battle fairly convincingly. Would a move to midfield benefit him and the team?
Who would drop out in midfield then? Harry Kehoe was probably the better of the pair today but O’Keeffe improved as the game developed and is more explosive.
Ciarán Kenny might be under a bit of pressure to retain his place at wing back from David Redmond (who replaced him at half time) or a returning Moore.
Still not entirely sure we have the right balance upfront. We have a lot of finishers but might need a workhorse type to stop teams coming out with the ball. A fully fit Sinnott would provide an option here.
Conor McDonald has tremendous hand-eye co-ordination. He’s the new Tony Doran. McGovern’s workrate and pace will also create plenty of chances for us.
Rory Jacob will only be fully appreciated when he’s gone. Just like Robbie Keane*.

This man is the best young hurler of his age in the country. If we get a run of games into August somehow he’s a shoe in for this award.
Some lad called Henry Shefflin pulled a lad called Billy Byrne aside during an U16 game between Wexford and Kilkenny a few years ago and asked who the lad in full forward was. Henry remarked that he’d never seen a lad as good at that age. Conor Mac is box office, pure and simple.
I don’t claim to know much about Antrim full backs but that McKinley chap seemed like a very strong and physical player in the league clash in Ballycastle.
Yesterday, he disrupted McDonald in the air for one early ball that was delivered in and ended up throwing him on the ground.
But McDonald rose tall to catch the next one, dismissively put McKinley on his arse when the defender tried to drive through him on landing and drilled the ball over the bar.
It was a moment that led me to shout “Honnnnnnnnnnnnn” and shoulder @stevie G.
