Wexford GAA 2014

No, that would be strange. And weird.

Please don’t take pictures of me when I’m going about my business, guys.

I would have been happy to pose for a photo too. I actually think I know who that is by the way*.

Away to Kilkenny on Wednesday night in the U21. Now I regret not taking any driving lessons since passing my theory test with flying colours in February (39/40) though I want @stevie G to drive us down in any event.

We’ll have Liam Ryan, Jack Guiney and Conor McDonald from yesterday’s team starting. And yesterday’s subs/extended panel also included some U21 players - Jack O’Connor, Eoin Conroy, Conor Devitt to name a few.

I think Ian Byrne and Diarmuid O’Keeffe are a year overage. I really need either some of you chaps or Brendan Furlong in tomorrow’s Wexford People to provide more details on who else is likely to be playing for us.

*It’s not actually me.

Wexford will beat Dublin

Easily.

Wexford U21 Hurling Team:

Oliver O’Leary (Buffers Alley)
Garrett Foley (Fethard)
Liam Ryan (Rapparees)
Eoin Conroy (Naomh Eanna)
Andrew Kenny (Buffers Alley)
Shane O’Gorman (Adamstown)
Jack O’Connor (St Martin’s)
Conor Devitt (Ballyfad)
Aidan Nolan (Halfway-House Bunclody)
Jack Guiney (Rathnure)
Paraic Doyle (Naomh Eanna)
Kevin Foley (Rapparees)
Rhys Clarke (Faythe Harriers)
Conor McDonald (Naomh Eanna)
Gary Moore (Glynn-Barntown)

3 senior starters from last Sunday, 9 senior squad players in total and a fair sprinkling of survivors from last year’s U21 provincial wining side. Looks like a fairly strong team to me, but I haven’t seen them play this year.

especially now it looks like sutcliffe is definitely out…

Good Liam Dunne interview in yesterday’s Irish Times too.
. :D
what kind of useless shower are ye in wexford that the manager of the senior hurling team can’t get sorted with a job??..that’s a disgrace he went so long without work…

I told you he was definitely out a week ago. It’s not my problem the likes of the Irish Independent were stating he was still expected to be fit in last Thursday’s paper. Please place more reliance on me in future.

You told me??..when pal??..don’t remember haveing that conversation… its a big ask for Dublin…by all accounts their better players aren’t going well…don’t know if its been addressed here already but how much of a role does Liam griffin have with wexford?..

On the hurling championship thread last midweek, pal. I didn’t tag you specifically but it was FAO of all forum members. Liam Griffin has no role with the Wexford senior team, as far as I know.

so its little you do know then…
the wexford players washing their cups and plates after their meal after playing tipp in Oulart was the clue pal…

Okay, I didn’t want to say it but Griffin is hovering alright and delivering the odd oration. It invariably references 1996 which leads to collective groans. He’s a great guy overall though.

Backtrack !..

Is Eoin Moore going to be fit for the Dublin game, chaps?

I think we need to tweak our lineup in the middle sector to maximise our chances while keeping 1-4 (Fanning, Ryan, O’Hanlon, Rossiter) and 13-15 (Jacob, McDonald, McGovern) as is.

Our half back line was a concern on Sunday and it’s probably the most important part of the field in terms of providing a winning platform. Additionally, they’ll be up against Dublin’s strongest line with Keaney, O’Dwyer/Dwyer and Sutcliffe (although the latter is definitely out).

Moore (hopefully), David Redmond and Richie Kehoe will come into consideration and I’d also like to see squad call ups for Aidan Rochford and Graham Nolan.

Rochford was probably the best half back in Wexford in the opening two rounds of the club championship and has become St Anne’s most important player.

Nolan plays his club hurling in Dublin for Sutcliffe’s St Jude’s at centre back and has been outstanding for them for the last few years. He’s returned strongly from a serious knee injury this season too.

I’d also consider releasing Chin or Shore into midfield.

why did Gizzy Lyng retire from intercounty hurling? injury? Does he still play with his club?

To be fair Stephen Hunt is the real guest motivator there.

Was fairly widely reported. He had some weird infection which he couldn’t shift that drained all his energy. Don’t know if he plays with his club. @Bandage or @Appendage might know.

He’s opened a bar in Rosslare in the last couple of weeks. Are we going to be seeing more of him in Wexford now I wonder?
