Wexford GAA 2015

Relax lads, we’ve beaten 2 of the 3 worst teams in the league

Wexford won’t be caught from here.

Win our two remaining home games and we can afford a slip up in our most difficult remaining game away to Laois. We should close out promotion from this position.

What’s the weather forecast for 8th March? Will it be monsoon-like in Wexford?

We haven’t a prayer I reckon.

Pal, just realised the other day that my good lady has an important family event on that weekend and my chances of being in attendance at Wexford Park are therefore in jeopardy. Didn’t want to say anything until today’s games were out of the way but it’s a bitter blow.

A bitter blow indeed. Still, I’ve no doubt that the world-renowned Wexford welcome will be forthcoming and we’ll be directed to a seat in the covered stand just as we were in 2009 and 2013. Apparently some of our more peasant-like “supporters” ended up on the far terrace for some reason. Inexplicable really.

I hope you and your good lady enjoy your soiree famille and doubtless you’ll keep a close ear on the goings on in Wexford park as some of my more uncouth neighbours come to town.

Agreed, Wexford are home and hosed.

They can probably try experimental teams for the rest of the 1b campaign.

Pretty poor second half display. They went down to 14 men straight after half time. Cillian Kiely, the young chap who was brilliant for Kilmormac-Killoughey, had a rush of blood to the head. Chased Kevin Foley back into defence, gave away a free for clipping him across the arm when trying to flick the ball away but then digged him in the ribs with the butt of the hurl after the ref blew for the initial free.

Our half forward line went out of it. Waters possibly could have received a second yellow card before being withdrawn. O’Keeffe didn’t have one of his better games and Guiney’s day didn’t improve when he was moved to wing forward.

They were still hanging around at 1-12 to 0-12 when two of our best three players put the game to bed. Redmond knocked over his fourth point from midfield and McGovern struck over a brace to bring his tally to five. Podge Doran put the gloss on the scoreline with a well finished goal in the last minute.

Our shooting woes struck again in the second half. We had a mixture of “why the fuck are you choosing to shoot from there?” and “how the fuck did you miss that?” wides. Around 17 in total and 5 in 5 minutes with about 10 minutes to go when Offaly tired and we started to get some easier possession. Thankfully McGovern and Redmond intervened to avert a close run finish.

Liam Ryan was spare man when they went down to 15 and did well. Ciaran Kenny did a decent job on Dooley and Currams wasn’t a factor at either wing forward on Foley or when he moved onto O’Hanlon.

We need to cut out sloppy free concessions. Eoin Moore gave away a handful today despite hurling a lot of ball otherwise. Kenny blocked Dooley down smartly at one stage and then gave a free away for a third man tackle when Fanning was collecting the ball. Little things like that need to be eradicated.

McGovern is top class though. He was the pick of our players with Redmond and Chin.

Scorers: Guiney 1-3 (0-3 F), McGovern 0-5, Redmond 0-4, Byrne, Waters, K Foley 0-1 each, Doran 1-0.[/QUOTE]
Any decent performances on the Offaly team?

The full back got the better of Guiney. Colin Egan had a strong game at centre back and SeĂĄn Ryan got through an awful lot of work in midfield when Offaly went down to 14 too.

How did Waters play?will he make the grade?Eanna Martin do anything to justify his inclusion?

I think it has draw written all over it

Some good performances today the backs hurled well, good to see no goals given away today. Ciaran Kenny was very good today as was Liam Ryan. I don’t think Martin is the answer to our midfield problems… I think Dee O’Keeffe should have started in midfield with Redmond. Guiney had a poor game, Liam og was very good. Byrne did a lot of good work and deserves to keep his place for the next day. Conditions were brutal, looking forward to the Limerick game now and think with a bit of improvement we can beat Limerick in the park. Wexford improving with each game and we should have Conor Mac back.

I presume they’ll at least have the match on a big screen for you mate?

Sorry, just so I’m clear on this, did the bandwagon start last year or are we waiting until the summer?

Both were okay. Need to see more of Waters at centre forward before making a definitive judgement on it. He was pretty involved in the first half, used his physicality, laid off some passes and scored a point himself. Drifted out of it a bit after half time, was booked, moved into full forward and was then taken off midway through the half after being lucky enough to escape a second booking.

Martin complemented Redmond well in the first half and got on the ball a fair bit. Like Waters, he drifted out of it in the third quarter when we were collectively a bit sloppy and Harry Kehoe came on for him.
