Wexford GAA 2015

ā€œor so it goesā€ indeed.

good thing games are played at the weekend i supposeā€¦

The better team lost there. Lee Chin had an absolute stormer, class player. McGovern was on fire in the first half, it was only when Hickey was moved onto him that he was nullified.

Still, considering the hammering that Wexford experienced against Limerick in Thurles last year, it is a successful day for Wexford to come so close today.

Limerick were without a lot of starters today, still, Limerick have a lot of work to do before the championship.

Wexford will take stopping come the summer. Assuming they get past Laois, would fancy them to turn over Kilkenny in Leinster semi final.

Weā€™re still conceding too many goals when weā€™re in control of games and missing lots of chances at the other end. Iā€™ve never been bothered by the 1A versus 1B debate in 6-team divisions, especially with quarter finals introduced last year also. But we need to be meaner and more clinical. Again, itā€™s early March so no need to get too high or low based on todayā€™s result.

Was Hickey not meant to have been marking him for his second goal?

How many is a lot?

Any match reports?

I see we won the football.

Ye may have the football. Weā€™ll take the hurling!

I think the Wexford Twitter account said something along the lines of today proving Limerick can compete at this level, given the level is 1B youā€™d hope so. They come out with some doozies.

That sounds totally spurious. Every club has similar issues.

Will ye field in the championship? Giving up a bit easily arenā€™t they?

Plenty of positives to take from the hurling as well as plenty to work on.Main positive for me was the half back line especially in the 2nd half where Chin, O Hanlon and Foley were immense in the air(Dunne obviously learned from last years All Ireland 1/4 final where we were cleaned out there). The delivery of the ball especially in the first half to the forwards was excellent with the half back line and midfield hitting the space for the likes of Guiney and Liam Og to run onto. With the wind at our backs in the 2nd half we did launch our puck outs long down the middle which rarely works unless you can isolate a good fielder one on one. Liam Og excellent for the 1st 20 minutes but went out of the game once Hickey moved back on him. Ian Byrne and Morris showed some nice touches and striking at times and I was surprised when both were substituted. Podge Doran was lively, scoring 2 points on his introduction but was also guilty of wasting some ball.
The biggest disappointments were the amount of wides we had (Jack Guiney most culpable) and how cheaply we gave away goals. Every time we looked like pulling away and pushing on for the win we coughed up a handy goal and let Limerick back in it. Today was a great opportunity and just a pity we let it slip as now promotion looks a long shot. Still nice to have the Waterford game at home and if iā€™m not mistaken a home league 1/4 final against one of the big boys to look forward too.
As for the football. 2 teams who are unrecognizable from the provincial contenders they were not so long ago. Nice to get the win. A committed performance from Wexford and nice to see them win but unfortunately Power doesnā€™t have the same calibre of player at his disposal as Jason Ryan did during his term in charge.

From a Limerick standpoint Wexford look well capable of building on last years displays and have a very dangerous forward line. If they
cut out the silly wides they are a match for anyone.

How did we end up conceding a goal from a long range free? Did Fanning or a defender on the line fumble it or what?

Sorry for mugging ye off.

Appreciate your good wishes, mate. Just make sure you donā€™t ultimately mug yourselves off reading too much into a league match. Iā€™d express similar sentiments to you regarding the football but no right minded person gives a fuck about it.

No bud.

I was on the openside at the oppisite end so hard to see.Ball didnt seem to change direction so only slight deflection if one at all.A soft goal to concede, needed to be caught Darragh Ryan style or else batted out.Not even sure who was under it as it dropped in.

There was a meaningless game in championship recently where the club contacted the county board to give a walkover. It was accepted, but then contacted again to be told theyā€™d be thrown out if they did that. I agree with what you and the count have said.

I was also on the open side today and when Johnny Ryan made any of his ridiculous calls (on either side) an aul lad (maybe @The Young Bull?) would guffaw ā€˜sure what would you expect from a Wicklow man refereeing a hurling match?ā€™.
