He does in his shite. Heâs awful when talking to media
sorry I only think hurling
Didnât realise until Ger Canning mentioned it there that Frank Flannery is coaching Cork this year.
FAO of lads who bothered to go to the game:
-
What way did the hurlers actually line up? Did they play with 7 defenders? It was hard to decipher on the television. Was Paudie Foley dropping deep to protect the full back line? Niall James Vincent McMorrow had absolutely acres of space. Was somebody else meant to be picking him up or was Foley just holding his position and letting him roam?
-
What was the story with the Dublin midfielder trotting forward untracked for the second goal? Who was marking him? Eoin Conroy seemed to be corner back on OâCallaghan so was Jack OâConnor or Andrew Kenny midfield with Harry Kehoe?
-
What in the name of fuck was going on with our puck-out strategy both attacking and defending? The first Dublin goal came from the 4th puck out in a row where their keeper was able to pick out a man running into space around 45 yards out. That was particularly awful considering they did that to us in the Walsh Cup too. Why was our keeper giving dribbly passes to our full back line in shitty wet conditions?
-
We have around 5 players who canât strike the ball cleanly.
-
Liam Ăg McGovern was very good for us.
Anyone notice the Wexford GAA twitter account operator taking exception to a tweet by AIB GAA basically saying the football was sleep inducing? Said it was disrespectful to these âarmatureâ players.
I saw that alright. If a game is shit, so be it. Taking exception to calling it sleep inducing to a game that finishes 9-8 is ridiculous.
The hurling was just really frustrating to watch. Itâs hard to see what the actual game plan is. A number of times there was a shitty puc out and the defender hits it under pressure to around the 65. So why hit it short if the tactic for the defender is just to lump it as far as he can? Also, the amount of times they had a pass on, but instead chose to try burst thru the opponent and ended up losing possession.
Very disappointing loss for minor footballers today too.
Jesus, this is depressing. Has Dunne gone yet or what?
The Wexford Twitter account is retweeting images of a tv screen in the Riverside which is showing the Facup. The message is no wonder we are shit cos people wonât watch our matches. No pal weâre shit cos the County board couldnât be arsed putting a decent management strategy in place. If the product is shit people wonât bother with hurting or football. This isnât the Fifties. Summer school could really do damage to the GAA in Wexford, however the County board are asleep at the wheel.
Sorry summer school meant summer soccer!
Who writes this stuff? Itâs ridiculously awful.
Hard luck to our Minor Footballers today who lost out on a Semi Final spot over a Offaly side who played their 3rd championship game before todays Quarter Final, Wexford only outing been the 17-21 to 0-1 win over Kilkenny as a result Offaly were the dominat side through out the game, Despite Wexford leveling twice in the 60mins and coming within 4 points after Jamie Myler 2nd half goal Offaly pushed on to win 19 points to 1-11
Wexford will still win the minor All Ireland on goal difference.
As I pointed out to you ages back Wexford have been setting up defensively all year. But you just wouldnât listen to me.
Not in all games, brah. Weâre tactically adaptable, you see. We can set up and lose in many different ways.
Football
- A shambles
- Both teams set up with 8 defenders - lots of aimless soloing and passing around the 45 on both sides
- Alan Smith destroyed Joey Wadding in the first half. Joey ainât a full back
- Our tactic of being defensive and then looking to break on the counter doesnât work when our players are slow
- Daithi Waters is horrible at shooting (sorry Daithi, I know youâve to get up for work this morning)
- Ben Brosnan spent more time defending than attacking which seemed like a weird use of his ability
- Donât think Brosnan or Lyng scored which was odd
- We should have won but bad free taking and not having forwards who can shoot was our downfall
Hurling
- A bigger shambles
- Short puck outs cost us 5-6 points
- When we did puck it long it didnât go beyond half way - big loopy awful puck outs
- Matthew OâHanlon and Liam Ryan did well. Canât understand why MOH is unable to puck the ball more than 40 yards - very weird strike
- Dotsy roasted Eoghan Conroy
@Bandage, I think the structure at throw in was
Ryan, MOH, Conroy
Moore, Foley, OâKeefe
Kehoe, OâConnor
Kenny, Morris, Dunne
McGovern, McDonald, Doran
We then reverted to something like
Ryan, MOH, Conroy
Moore, Foley, OâConnor
McGovern, Kehoe, OâKeefe,
Dunne
Kenny, Morris,
McDonald, Doran
And then everyone went all over the place. Doran came out the field and switched with Dunne. Then McDonald came out to centre forward. Harry Kehoe seemed to be left half forward most of the game. At times there didnât even seem to be a structure at all - or if there was it wasnât evident to anyone watching it.
Positives (scraping the bottom of the barrel)
Paudie Foley looked encouraging in the early stages
David Dunne added a very direct dimension that we havenât had since Eoin Quigley retired (Lee Chin aside). He just couldnât get the ball clean into his hands
We actually won a huge amount of breaking 50/50 puckouts around half way - we just did nothing with them
Negatives
Everything else.
Conroy being roasted by an old man is very worrying
Still no-one who can tap points over from beyond 50 yards
Half the team canât strike the ball properly
At least being out of both competitions in early June might give us a chance of getting the club championships finished before the ground goes too soggy.
Wexford need 15 Liam Ryans.
Weâd finish every game with 10 players if that was the case. Some lad to get away with jersey pulls and stuff thats borderline frees. Gets blown against the likes of Kilkenny cos they know it and play on it. Not against lesser teams.
Pretty good summation
Kildare were muck, we gave them way too much respect. No need to be so defensive, there was at least three occasions in the first half when we had no players in the Kildare half of the pitch. Improved somewhat in the second, but our shooting and especially free-taking let us down. Kind of highlights how big a fuck-up it was not getting out of Division 4 when a team like Kildare were able to get promoted to Division 2.
From my TV view, I thought Liam Ryan and Matthew OâHanlon were below par. I was quite disappointed with Ryanâs defending for the first goal. Not sure what way weâre using Andrew Kenny. Podge Doran duffed two second half goal chances / half chances - he has a strange striking style that doesnât seem to work consistently. Work rate didnât seem to be all that great either as a unit. If the centre back is going to hold the position around 40 yards out, you canât have the centre forward strolling around, picking up loose ball in oceans of space and popping over points. The other lines should be dropping back in unison and he should have been swallowed up. It gets back to inability to change things positively in-game. We need to pick a goalkeeper who can strike the ball crisply and accurately, catch the ball, command the square, organise the defence and make the odd aul save.
