That seems very odd alright. And in the time the Naval lads told the RNLI not to board the vessel, all the drugs got dumped. A lot more going on than what’s being reported so far I expect.
If they only bought the trawler last week you’d imagine they went miles out to meet some other vessel to take on board the consignment. Whether it’s natives or hired middlemen on board might be interesting. They’ll surely recover enough bales to make a trafficking case.

This extends the oddness. Only seized cos it lost power. Could they have lost power a good while back and tried to offload a good chunk of the drugs to the trawler before radioing in for help?

Meanwhile, the shipping container named the MV Matthew left the southern Caribbean on August 18th but is understood to have lost power off the south coast over the weekend and notified the Irish Coast Guard that it was without engines on Sunday.
An Irish Coast Guard helicopter carried out a medical evacuation of the shipping container vessel off the Waterford coast around 9pm on Monday night after a crew member on board was reported to have taken ill.
It is understood that a team of Rangers boarded the Panamanian registered bulk carrier south of Ballycotton in East Cork and the vessel is now headed for Cork Harbour where it is expected to be searched by gardaí and customs officers.
