First guest is Bono so I switched off.
Buddy of @Mac Ivan Yates is being interviewed shortly so I’ll probably switch back on again. Incidentally Ivan is back at the wheel on the breakfast show from Wednesday.
Heard a clip that they played of Yates at lunchtime. He seemed to be moaning that his only source of income was a pension of 3Gs a month. Ahsuregodhelpus! Was he seriously looking for sympathy?!
Is he replacing Shane Coleman? I thought he was doing a good job-better than listening to Yates constantly inferring that Chris Donoghue is gay and then pulling the piss out of the senile Paddy Crerand anyway.
Coleman is a prude. No personality for radio entertainment.
When O’Donoghue is playing bad cop you know its shit radio.
Yates is a fucktard who tries to be a smartarse and score cheap points off people-Coleman wasn’t brilliant but I thought he was much better than Yates.
Such a smartarse/fucktard that O’Brien brought him back from the wilderness?
Coleman has an excellent grasp of the political landscape… that’s where it stops. The humor of Yates isn’t for everyone but his interviewing technique on the serious topics is excellent and he cuts through alot of blather and bullshit.

We’ll agree to disagree, bud-wouldn’t have any time for Yates and was not happy when I heard that he was coming back to the Breakfast Show this morning. He comes across as a smug git a lot of the time imo and I wouldn’t let the fact that that thieving cunt O’Brien likes him sway my opinion on the fucker.
I think RTE Lyric is the best station to listen to. For example now at about 2.30 today, there was some lady on Newstalk talking about a troubled childhood ( the details of which I didn’t care to listen to ) on RTE liveline they were talking about bankruptcy and on Today fm they were babbling on about celebs. Lyric were playing the Robots by Kraftwerk as interpreted by a string quartet.
The best show on Lyric and therefore for my money the best show on the whole radio is Movies and Musicals presented by the lovely Aideen Gormley on Saturday afternoons. I am in love with Aideens voice.
Hard to see why anyone would pay any attention to Ivan Yates now, whether you like him or not he is a failed politician and businessman, he has pretty much no credibility which undermines him if he wants to grill people in his interviews.
Is that how you would look at say, Brian Cowen, if he was suddenly appointed Minister for Finance? His style is a bit high handed and he comes across as always thinking he knows best, which just doesn’t suit for me.
Maybe. He went from rising star to retiring from politics fairly suddenly though for someone who was talked about as a potential leader of fine gael. You’re right though failed is too strong there.

Did he enter politics at 21 or something? Only a complete cunt would do that.

He was asked to stay on numerous occasions but left to focus on business which looks like a slightly foolish decision now but nothing can be done about it. His parting shot was getting Paul Kehoe elected ahead of Avril Doyle. If he had stayed on he’d still be 1 of the first elected in Wexford.
Shur thanks to our generous pensions system for politicians at least he can still claim a fairly hefty pension from the job he left nearly 20 years ago.
