So are you going to cancel that protest march to Dublin so?

Brilliant, you insulted the dead Garda to ingratiate yourself with @glasagusban’s fan club.
The need for edginess is incredibly strong in you :+1:

Thanks pal, I knew you’de come to back me up. :+1:

He was detective was he not?

He was shot with his own weapon so unlikely the guy was armed.

I just don’t see the need for Gardai to be armed other than armed repsonse units who have extensive training and experience in situations that require their needs.

Strange alright. Maybe detectives always carry while on duty?

Who says detectives are not trained in handling firearms?

Armed detectives are not uncommon.

They might have been trained but I would severely doubt they’ve had cause to use them in their daily jobs, particularly in a county like Roscommon.

I just find it bizarre a Garda in Roscommon was carrying a gun on him.

Armed detectives are standard.

How was he to know before calling that the mentaller was not armed? As said above it happened in Louth a few years ago.

Sounds like a very unfortunate incident where someone with mental health issues turned a cops gun on him with horrific consequences. Doesn’t sound pre planned. The headlines msm running with calling it an attack at the heart of our democracy are not helpful

Domestic disputes are notoriously dangerous. I’m sure he felt, as an experienced guard, that he was safer with a weapon. Unfortunately and tragically it didn’t work out that way.

The victim blaming going on already is really unnecessary. Man was doing his job and now, sadly, he won’t ever come home.

But there’s no reason to believe a gun in Louth would have done anything to make the matter better. You had an armed psychotic nutjob in Louth who was on a death wish anyway, I’d say the nut in Louth had more experience of operating a firearm than a rank and file garda.

Gun crime is not a major issue in Ireland and is pretty much solely used in gangland violence, you’d very, very rarely hear of a shooting outside of a gangland hit. So I don’t see the need for gardai or detectives other than specially trained and assigned armed response units to be carrying firearms.

Victim blaming?

You should probably wait for more information to come to light before questioning the need for bringing the gun

He was shot and killed with his own weapon.

It’s fairly obvious he was going into a dangerous situation.
