Why do teachers get pay rises

Teachers get a starting salary of upwards of 30k a year and circa 3 months off during the summer as well as other week breaks at Easter, Halloween and Christmas?

Can you justify what a teacher gets in comparison to a nurse or a garda?

Are you also saying a teacher on a permanent contract is not paid during the summer months?

Are you answering a question with a question?

No i’m saying they are not paid for the summer months.

Why shouldn’t he answer a question with a question?

So they are paid for working 9 months of the year over a 12 month period?

  1. Strange question. Only you know the answer to this. I presume so.

  2. What is an equivalent nurse? Would a primary teacher be equivalent to a pediatric nurse? Please post up the pay scales of all concerned. I’m not sure what they are so I won’t be debating without facts. As the self proclaimed ‘greatest debater on the internet’ I’d imagine you won’t mind dealing in facts. Unless you’d like a theoretical debate. I love them.

  3. Looking for more? More than what they are on now monetarily or the same as colleagues who do the same job?

  4. Are you presuming I support the ASTI strikes?

Staff nurse gets circa €23k out of college after completing their placement time etc.

Permanent teacher gets circa €30k.

Gardai get around 23k salary after they come out of the piggery.

Can you justify a teacher’s salary and benefits in comparison to their public sector counterparts.

That’s still more.

That is my understanding.

Because the children are the future.

That’s not a justification.

These figures are extremely misleading. There are little or no teachers who get permanent contracts upon leaving college. It just doesn’t happen. They get half/contracts and temporary contracts. So they don’t gt summer pay. So you’re talking bollox.

So if you want to play that card, we can effectively ramp the starting salary up to €40k.

In your opinion.

Are you jealous?

I would imagine nurses find themselves in a similar predicament.

Can you tell me the hourly rate a teacher who is subbing gets?

It’s not. They are arguing for equal contracts for teachers doing the same work. I think they are going about it the wrong way but I respect their right to strike. The cunts.

No. I’m not a sub teacher. Nor a teacher of any sorts currently. You seem to have a lot of time on your hands today. Check it out for yourself.

@Nembo_Kid are you working today?
