Why do teachers get pay rises

Used to give out like fuck about teachers until I had to take a bus load of nine year olds to a blitz a couple of years back. Jesus tonight never again

  1. Because if teachers were free to move to higher paid schools based on their quality /performance every good teacher would end up in the fee paying private schools (this happens a bit anyway now) and all tough inner city schools would end up with the dregs of the teaching profession.

  2. L’Oréal complex? Nice. Ask anybody in any job and they will say they thoroughly deserve their pay. Teachers here are (or certainly were) paid above the European average. New ones are entirely fucked over as has been mentioned. One indicator of performance is that the teachers on here never post during their working hours, whereas the smelly shirted box tickers of tfk seem to be free to post whenever.

Winner

My favourite bit is where you said people who go into teaching are generally scared stiff of work. Top quality. Even for you nimby. Maith thù.

The funniest part of the argument is that the lads complaining the most spend 80% of their working day posting on here

I think teachers generally do great work and provide a valuable service to society. But spending 80% of the working day on TFK and still producing sensational results in work is not to be sniffed at.

Irish teachers are fantastic.
They get thrown thru the ringer big time.

I’m not getting the point you are trying to create.

They still don’t have half the work teachers around the globe have…

Because it is standard Union practice? They are treated like cogs on the wheel rather than being individually important.

Doesn’t surprise me. Top quality wum. You know nothing of teaching but say teachers are workshy. It’s evident to anyone who posts here that either you are workshy and stealing a living or that you work in a role so menial it requires little or no work.

What targets do you hit? 3 bags of spuds peeled before noon and the fryers washed every Tuesday?

Spoken like a teacher.

Like someone with a sense of entitlement to three to four months paid holidays.

I’m self employed. No work, no pay. Try again fryer boy.

They are not paid holidays.

Do permanently employed teachers get paid during the school holidays?

No.

They don’t get paid?

So permanently employed teachers have to sign on during the summer?

They don’t have to sign on no. Teachers are paid for the work they do during the school year only and are not paid for their summer …no more than the rest of us.
