Stand alone club but would have a lot of crossover. Haven’t seen anything about it this year but it’s been Rathnew and Pats in the football the last decade or so. Both actually in Wicklow Town parish but rathnew is a stand alone village for the moment at least. Wicklow will come out to meet it soon. They love their football there and the standard seems to be high enough. Don’t know why they are so shit.
They blame the fact that there is a mountain down the middle of the county meaning longer travel times etc. and all the clubs hate each other.
But I think they’ve just been really badly run as a county. They will have a serious population coming through in the next decade or so. If they can harness it they could improve dramatically.
They are up against rugby and soccer and losing in a lot of places. Bray, Greystones, Arklow etc all rugby towns and Bray obviously has the soccer as well.

Yep there’s a massive east and west divide in Wicklow … the heat will go out of pats and rathnew as time goes as like you said the gene pool gets diluted the more houses go up and outsiders move in … it’s like Mary’s of Saggart used to be filthy on their home patch . Then city west happened and all the new houses , they lost their parish feel .
