Did they have that in the Circle K?

Ah jaysus …

I’ll try and find some. I’d say it’s hard got?

In the circle k in Spain, no.

I’ve never had opus 1
Have you tried it ever?

No… that’s a bit pricey no?

Oh it certainly is. I was out for a dinner in town one night, and the lad who was hosting and I were talking about it. I said I’d love to try some sometime as a throwaway comment. He said he’d order a bottle, but when we looked it was £385 and this was ten years ago.

I have, a bottle that was given to me over a decade ago. It’s outrageously good but expensive like all good Napa Cabs. Silver Oak is as extravagant as I would get, you can find it for about $100 occasionally.

Cru bourgeois. How apt.

Chateau Neuf du Pape will always get the name recognition at the Xmas table which is no bad thing but I often worry that you’re largely paying for the name.

I was in O’Briens earlier and they have a “fine wine sale” from Mon. I saw a CNdP but also some othe interesting ones. As it happens I’m on wine duty for Xmas this year so might research what they have on offer a little more to see if there’s any thing useful

A Shiraz will go well with the turkey but I’d steer clear of the chateauneuf. Most of the stuff they sell here is way too young. You’d be better off spending that kind of money on a good barossa Shiraz. An alternative would be a nice Californian Zinfandel.

I find O’Briens to be a poor enough wine shop.

Why are you so exercised by what I do?
If I’m becoming cynical it’s most likely spending too much time here.

I’m not mad on shiraz. Maybe I haven’t had a good enough one. I’ve found it one of those robust types that does well in places like Australia and South Africa where the wine is mostly shite.

I’d agree with you myself, but each to his own.

Looking for a Chianti Clasico in the 30 euro range. Any recommendations?

Is it yourself extols the virtues of Barolo?

Picked one up today to have with the dinner, its probably too light for game, but a lovely wine all the same.

Personally I have no interest whatsoever in wine, it’s either red or white, drinkable or shite.
But I’m reminded of an old quip…

A champagne mouth with porter pockets.

Nope, you’ve summed it up perfectly

I doubt it. If I had my choice of Italian wines it would be a brunello de Montalcino or a Vino Nobile de Montepulciano. A good everyday wine would be a Salice Salentino.
