Hegarty would be as well off staying with football, for all his athleticism and ability in the air he is far too slow in his hurling and his swing is far too wide and all the training in the world wouldn’t bridge the gap needs at senior inter county level. The other two lads in the half back line look to have plenty of potential though

I think you are wrong on this @Big_Mick_McCarthy. I expect him to have a decent inter county career. He is a young chap playing at a low level all his life, where he was no doubt lording it. Without running down the St. Pats lads I doubt he got the best coaching coming up. He has also been focused mainly on football. The issue is that there is no depth or credible alternative to Kelly or the other 3 forwards who are miles off form. All well and good dropping him but little point for a callow lad who will make no impact. If we had someone like Reidy, McGrath, Cunningham, Bobby Duggan etc available then there might be an argument but there is little point when there is no credible alternative

A touch of both. He is an excellent free taker and stickman but hasn’t shown anywhere near the workrate a lad would need to survive in the middle third of the field at I/C level.

He left the panel last year due to lack of gametime. Wouldn’t give up on him yet, as he is only 23 but is the type of lad who would need to be put in corner forward and persevered with as he is a confidence player and not really suited to coming off the bench or being in and out of the team.

Injured himself after the Limerick student races and is only back training a couple of weeks. Was on the bench last Sunday.

Don’t know but would be surprised if the likely candidates such as Daly or Lohan will want it after they were blackguarded back in 2017 by Pat Fitz, both have both said publicly they won;t manage Clare while he is secretary.

Pat will do all he can to get Davy back or one of his yes men buddies to take it

Still on the panel. Very raw, will be an option in the medium term but his hurling wouldn’t be up to championship level yet and would need to add more strength to compensate and compete at championship level.

Himself, Diarmuid Ryan, Cooney and Aidan McCarthy are all lads who will be fine hurlers and regulars in the next two or three seasons but need time.

If Davy wins the All Ireland with Wexford this season then it may be a natural end to his time here. Clare could hardly turn down someone with his credentials.

Next manager is crucial. Ye’ve the core of a decent team there, but they haven’t another two seasons to waste.
