Cork GAA 2016

In club hurling? One senior, a few intermediate. Not much of note.

Real.old school attitude to hurling in Cork mixed with a coaching fraterntiy completely influenced by Donal O Grady and the 04/05 team and drills drills drills. Everywhere you go its that way.

Then they got that langer in a couple of years ago and it completely muddied the waters.

And people like backinatracksuit. These are the typesthat want the ex-players with no clue of what they are doing involved in county teams.

Jbm nearly made a silk purse from a …

Once they get underage structures right Cork hurlers will have Dublin football levels of dominance due to sheer leverage of numbers

JBM actually did alot of harm too though. I still don’t agree he over achieved.its just they are paying even more year on year for shit preperation and now the confidence and belief is shattered. The players now realise they have been under trained for a number of years.

That allied to the CB refusing (or not having the money) to pay for S&C is a major issue. I myself was involved in an absolutely farvical situation where 3 S&C Coaches were spoke to, to take the same job. You had both senior managements quit before x-mass, not really publically known/accepted as money to compete was being refused or selectors were being rammed down their throats.

It was notable Kevin O’ Donovan publically spoke about S&C last week. He gave a very honest interview which in a polite way called the CB (his employers) out for who they are.

Point being, the numbers have always been there. The development squads are not as great as being made out but the real issue is the people in charge at adult level.

The thing is, forward thinking sports organisatiins and clubs around the world are actually scrapping elite underage teams (NZ Rugby, Swedish Soccer) as they now realise they have failed too many people. I bet Killkenny and Dublin will be the first to latch on. So just as Cork catch up, the otgers will have moved ahead again.

The County Championship is another problem. But there was the inkling of hope with a number of decent games earlier this year.

From a selfish business/ego perspective, its being really made clear that i was completely right about the importance of S&C and preperation all along and now Cork look so inept people are slowly figuring it out and asking questions.

Just look at Dublin footballers. They have added skill and conditioning year on year. The little things they are doing now are so impressive. The cleverness of their play is a joy to behold. Their athleticism is superb also. But its not been built over night. Its really a 3-4 year accumulation.

We used to fear Cork.

Imokilly up next @ChocolateMice, I’d say your lot are fucked.

We never feared Imokilly ! When is that on?

Mid July I presume? Or whenever the senior hurlers are fucked out of championship.

The further away the better for Douglas, a number of those Imokilly players will start looking after themselves if their club gets a run in the championship.

On paper that Imokilly group is the strongest team in the championship and they have a few lads to come back in.

I see we are winning U-14 premier titles now.

Was your lad involved @Locke ?

No, way younger than that. Ben and Jerry are only under 9. I’m hoarse from roaring at the 17 of them that were at training above in Dungourney last evening. They’re coming on in fairness

How good are Bishopstown seniors? Would they beat an average UCC side in the senior championship?

Should do, especially without any Cork players. I know their fitness coach tok and he will have them in good nick. Seems to be doing a reasonable job at the dual club balance and they had a great win in the football.

4-5 points plus i would think.

Yeah, UCC are shocking poor this year.

The apathy to the players is palpable in Cork now. They have to take a look at themselves too. Everyone is failing here. They are too quick to blame others. Its poor management to hand players ready made excuses, but its also poor personal responsibility to accept them

If you were betting i would hold off here. I thought you were talking about hurling. Its football. I would be somewhat less sure about the football. UCC can produce really good football sides after a few phone calls.
