Gaa split season, killing Meath football since 2011

+1. I felt the same when DCC threatened to ruin the IFSC by sticking a white water rafting “attraction” in it. You can’t mess with sacred things.

The 2021 Championship Formats/Timing in both codes were very close to spot in my opinion. That would have been a great championship season if there were full crowds.

Bring back the football knockout qualifiers by all means and extend it by a few weeks but please dont have this long, meandering nonsense from January to June where nobody really knows or cares if they win or lose as it makes no difference in the grand scheme of things.

A major reason why the Football has turned to shit and everyone is sitting back with 15 behind the ball is because it takes a lot of energy to “press up” or “go for it”, energy which nobody has thanks to the ridiculous number of games they are playing. Teams are just saving energy by sitting back and allowing games become like Chess. It was better back during the League when teams were fresher.

I wouldnt expect the split season zealots to understand this nuanced analysis though.

Bullshit. Its easier to sit back and drag the shit out of the game till the last 5 minutes, fear is what’s killing the games led by charlatans like McGeeney who are afraid of their lives of losing a match.

I think McGeeney is being pragmatic. He knows that they cant sustain high energy, attacking football week in week out so instead have sucked the life out of games. Tomorrow will be their 7th game in about 10 weeks and they play again next Saturday either way. A mental schedule of games.

They were involved in a serious, one-off, knock out match with Monaghan in 2021 and played good stuff last year too in what was a much ‘lighter’ campaign.

Gway it was so box office @myboyblue left the basement for it

As someone who is overall in favour of the split season, theres some thongs need to be fixed. The hurling season should be condensed more to give a greater gap between league amd championship and restructure the league to the old 1A and 1B. Having the Joe mac teams play the prelim needs to be dropped, obly for Dublin v laois andnl carlow they were all training games.

Rip up the football championship the format is all wrong.

The precession of the simulacra has killed the GAA.

The league in hurling anyways needs something doing to it and I don’t know what that is. Doing away with the knockout stages to it would be a start anyway.

I actually think the Joe McDonagh counties getting a home game in the AI series is not a bad thing. You had decent enough crowds yesterday in Carlow & Tullamore which can only be good for the game in the counties, even despite shipping 7-38. I would actually go further and give them home games against the provincial winners to boost the profile of those games.

I’ve seen it myself at club level that it’s much more energy sapping playing as wing-forward in such a system. You’re basically expected to rush back as soon as your attack breaks down. Then if you get a turnover you’re galloping back up the other end of the field. It’s actually much less taxing playing a traditional man on man system for the most part.

If the current hurling system is to continue I think a sixth team should be added to the Munster hurling championship, regardless of whether that team is Kerry or somebody else. I’d be intrigued to see Offaly or Antrim go into Munster.

If Offaly or Antrim went into Munster, they’d ship 5 consecutive 15+ point hidings in a row and you could effectively end Hurling as a pastime there within six weeks.

At least in Leinster the hammerings are limited to 2 really bad ones.

They might, but they’d be forced to up their standards. If they’re serious about hurling.

Fix the hurling league, no bother we all can agree on it and yes there should have been no semis either despite Limerick benefiting from it this year.

The Joe mac teams were thriwn this bone to agree to the restructure. The joe mac is a very good competition in itself but extending the hurling season by 2 weeks to allow a hammering every year is pointless. Third place in munster or leinster should go straight to a QF. Only 3 out of the round robin works well as the formst goes, it adds jeopardy

Would it be worth going back to the old divisions.
Div.1 - 10 teams
Div 2 -10 Teams
Div3 - 7 Teams
Div 4 - 7 Teams

top wins the league. One up one down. Would need a few extra weeks.

Galway v Tipperary in a knock out championship hurling match with a Saturday tea time throw in. This should be played in the prime time Sunday afternoon 3.30 slot.

Here comes the Carlow Waterford Wexford Preston North London :cricket_bat_and_ball: take your pick fanatic and all round loyalist to the :crown: blowharding again, you made a slur about me a few weeks ago that I haven’t forgotten, you claimed I was a Mullingar man supporting Limerick for your information and I’ve gone through the genealogy I am 100% Limerick born and bred and as are both sides of my parents generation going back 3 generations. How you can comment on GAA matters while being a rabid loyalist is anathema to me.

Lads fuck off. We are in for a feast of a weekend. The ridiculous football championship is finally about to start and Galway Tipp will be a cracker in the hurling. Can’t see it but who knows maybe the Dubs have it in them to topple Clare

And two very evenly matched Tailteann semis
