General Election 2016

Russell Murphy swindled both Hugh Leonard and Gaybo. Took Hugh for 1/4 million and Gaybo for 150k which was a lot back in the day. His friendship with Sunday Press Beauty columnist Bronwyn Conroy was often commented upon at the time as well.

An alright sort so.

Thanks Choccy. I’ve contacted the local Post Office and they have the form there. Will fill it out and send it off. Don’t want to have to go back out and vote in Cork East if I don’t have to.

Hard to fault the man except that Gaybo would have retired 20 years ago if he hadn’t stolen his savings.

She’s from Saltmills in the south of the county but lives in Wexford town. I think she was added by party HQ as a nod to gender quotas but I doubt she’ll feature.

Hard to tell with Gorey and how it will assist Malcolm. I know party colleagues carved up the county in the past but not sure if anything has been agreed this time. I think Byrne and D’Arcy are the only two candidates from the north of the county with any chance. I reckon D’Arcy is more likely to take the departing Liam Twomey’s seat than Byrne taking one for FF here.

I’d have Mick Wallace, Brendan Howlin and Paul Kehoe down to retain with James Browne likely to take FF’s only seat. Last seat is fairly intriguing with D’Arcy and Byrne in the mix along with Johnny Mythen and Ger Carthy. I’m not sure there’s a seat for Sinn FĂ©in here with Wallace and Howlin likely to poll strongly and Mythen’s Enniscorthy base also home to Kehoe and Browne. Carthy is well respected in Wexford and has a profile as mayor of Wexford town (we kept a mayor when Phil Hogan abolished them around the country) but doubt there’s going to be two independent TDs elected. Last seat probably between D’Arcy and Mythen overall though.

Apparently Russell’s sons paid back some of the money their old lad had half inched. I used to work with one of the sons and you couldn’t meet a nicer chap

Has Lisa McDonald Simpson retired from politics?

I’m not sure, pal. She’s been active in a non-party* organisation/pressure group set up to complain about the severe shortage of Wexford town secondary school places.

*possibly being fronted by FF sympathetic types and being used to attack the government.

Johnny Mythen hasn’t a hope.

Most of the FF vote in Gorey last time around went to Wallace apparently. Those who lost faith in FF voted for him rather than voting for the enemy of Darcy / FG. Malcolm has been doing the ground work for 2-3 years now and really fought to be added to the ticket despite the party trying to push him out. I can see him getting the local FF vote along with a local vote from people with no party allegiance as North Wexford want a TD. Whether that is enough I don’t know but he should get a lot of transfers from North Wexford too once he’s not eliminated too early and this could give him a strong position.

If he does get elected I’d predict he’ll leave FF within 12 months and work as an independent TD.

2 mins after typing this post who arrives on the door step only Malcolm himself :astonished:

@GeoffreyBoycott, @Fagan_ODowd, @Tim_Riggins et al, would there be many proddy bastards up for election? I maybe naively didn’t realise that the likes of the late Brian Lenihan was a proddy. Would the likes of FF and FG be riddled with proddies?

I reckon that will be shocking news for Brian’s family

Lenihan was a Catholic. Heather Humphreys is a Prod, Seymour Crawford was one as well.

I suppose you’d want guaranteed forgiveness if you fucked your entire country over.

what are you on about?

Lenihan 's legacy. Pay cuts all round and longer working hours for every single public worker. And that’s only a fraction of it.
