The Eamon Dunphy Thread

At least as radical as his mate Shane Ross

Eamo, John, Bill and Liam all sort of needed each other really.

The dynamic was absolutely incredible.

RTE Soccer coverage from 2002-2014 was the peak of television.

I never claimed he was a radical. He was to quote Kris Kristofferson a walking contradiction partly truth and partly fiction. But in his prime when he was really engaged he was a terrific interviewer and pundit. Now he just seems worn out which is understandable considering the life he has lead.

I never said you did

this was the pinnacle

Where did you manage?

I managed to stay alive for 63 & 1/2 years Baby!!

That’s like a TFK match day thread played out live to the nation  The 2 lads completely missing Souness’ point and ganging up on him and Billo getting told to shut the fuck up. Bill’s smirk. Ah lads.

Dunphy is poison.

He has ranted as a journalist against two of the best Irish people - John Hume and Mary Robinson.

He ran Mick McCarthy out a job in relation to Saipan and constantly advocated Keane’s greatness.

Then he flip flopped. As he does.

His football knowledge is shocking. Ronaldo - more flip flopping. His calling for Wes Hoolahan to start instead of Glenn Whelan in an Irish match showed his complete lack of basic knowledge of the set up of a team.

And last but not least, Shane Ross was his best man.

Giles was getting riled there which was rare. Souness didn’t quite know what to do as he was used to sky non debate TV and he looked a bit dismissive of the others.

Dunphy: Stay out of this Bill,This is a football debate :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

no. no. no
Song is a sitting player
no no no . You don’t know what you’re talking about. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Souness remained incredibly calm

Right at the start - Bill, can I make an assumption that there is 30m there.
All three. No
Bill. RIght, so, I’m going to say there’s 30 million there

It really is gold

I miss that panel. I used to love watching champions league on RTE. A World Cup or a euros was incredible. They were absolutely box office. Nowadays I turn off the telly once the match is over.

same as that… there just isn’t the character there to pull it off. Sky Sports with Keane and Carragher is watchable - Keane is a very witty guy

The studio analysis was the best part of Irish soccer for a decade or so

Look at the face on Didi Hamann here as the two boys go off

This was the pinnacle of dunphy. I’m amazed he kept his job.

You’d almost watch the matches looking for something you know would set Dunphy off. Ronaldo would take on a shot when he shouldn’t or lose the ball doing a step over and you’d be like “here we go”

Would agree with a lot if the above regarding the great mans podcast, very repetitive.

Doesn’t really seem to cover Irish politics at all, plenty of spoofers there for Eamo to have a cut off

One of his podcast this week was a bit different it had Paul Sonmetville (a stalwart of Vincent Brownes tv show circa 2008) talking about stick market/GameStop etc

Eamo to Brady - “you’ve jumped the fence baby”

This is complete magic.

These lads have the balls to say on national tv what some lads would only say on the internet

We’ve got an idiot like Niall Quinn

Bill was a terrific anchor of that may the Lord rest him
