No good. Heâs a dealing with a woman here.
It has to be expensive, shiny and make noise.
The woman or the coffee machine?
Are we thinking of some shiny plastic push button thing that makes shit coffee, or are you wearing your big boy trousers and looking for a proper piece of kit?
A Moka pot, a Clever Dripper and a decent weighing scales.
Proper kit
This has been the entry level âprosumerâ machine for yearsâŠno gimmicks, digital displays etc. Just rock solid pump, heavyweight metal parts, proper portafilter etc. Itâs probably as good as anything costing up to 1k. It could last a lifetime so long as you descale it
https://www.coffeeitalia.co.uk/rancilio-silvia-v6-e-2020-last-edition-espresso-cup-edition.htmlYouâre at nothing without a burr grinder- ideally you want one that doesnât click through the settings, instead it should have a smooth adjustment so youâll decide the grind. That said the Silvia/rocky combo is hard bate. You could go without a grinder for a while and learn how to use the tamper/adjust the amount slightly etc
Your other option is a pavoni lever machine. Another lifetime investment, a lovely piece of kit that requires a nice learning curve.

This is dacent enough advice, even though I say so myself. If you wanted to spend even more youâd probably look at an isomac, an expobar or maybe even an elektra for show
Things are getting out of hand. Iâd strongly recommend the gaggia classic. Youâll get 10-15 years out of it and a 2yr old could replace any part in it and theyâre easy to clean.
Iâve owned a nespresso machine, spent a few years using the trusty moka pot but this blows them out of the water.
Youâd need its own island for that kit.

This thing looks like a baddie in Dr Who.
Got a DeâLonghi dedica pump as a gift and very happy with it. Nice and slim so doesnât take up much space and hardly any maintenance with it. Highly recommended, pal.
Iâll rip your throat out you utter Philippine
Thoughts chaps? Anyone have one?
If youâre spending that kind of money I think you should buy a classic sturdy simple machine with a brass group head and a powerful pump. Youâll be able to service it, buy replacement parts and find someone to work on it if something goes wrong. Youâll get a lifetime of use out of it
Any example link?
The rancilio or pavoni machinesâŠthe rocky grinder is tried and tested also. Or just buy the machine and get the grinder later. Iâd prefer the pavoni myself, the classic lever machine. The rancilio is a great yoke also, youâd want to spend a grand to get something better

@Fagan_ODowd - do you boil the water before you put it in in the Moka. I only learned last year that is the recommended way to do it
Iâd say that would do the finest pal
But itâs like looking for advice on a gas BBQ⊠GhĂ© purists wonât like it
No. I must try that. Would speed things up too.
Thereâs a ton of second hand pavonis for sale through their version of donedeal when I was in Italy last summer. Some of them real cheap.
Yes, Rancilio Silvia, great machine. Far better steaming wand than the gaggia classic.
Iâd say that would do the finest pal

Sage must have a strong Instagram game.
