So, you’ve modified terms from “runs” to “controls” which is somewhat true, although I would say tries to control with mixed success. In capitalist countries governments try and control the economy via regulation, taxes, etc., however the majority of the economy is run by the private sector. Unless you are arguing that the Irish government runs Apple, Intel, Microsoft, Google, and everyone creating jobs and revenue in the country, which I don’t think you are. The main role of government in a capitalist economy is to create a business friendly environment for innovation and investment to flourish. In this regard I would say Ireland is doing an overall good job.
The only countries where the government actually runs the economy are Russia, China (although now 80% of jobs are in the private sector), North Korea, Cuba, etc.
