If I were a Man United fan I’d be interested in Thomas Frank because I reckon he could be like a Klopp lite and impose a high octane brand of football. Shrewd poster @Copper_pipe has a liking for Nagelsmann it seems but I’d be slightly wary of the fact that his teams tend to wilt a bit when it comes to the crunch. Albeit he’s managed at a higher level than Frank. I can’t shake the memory of his Hoffenheim team rolling over for Liverpool in a 2017 Champions League qualifier when I expected a 2008 Standard Liege style battle.

He’s like Ronaldo. His output in terms of scoring will always be ok but does he make cork a better team overall? No. He’s so slow and just doesn’t work very hard. He probably can’t. He’s also started missing simple chances he’d never miss before. It is why team selection is so difficult. It’s about creating the best team not just picking the best players. Seems like slot has taken 10% off the top in favour of control. Suiting the Dutch lads/ konate a few others. Trent / Robertson / Nunez less so. Still success breeds success and all that .

Yeah the Klopp style was like a dopamine hit for the modern football fan because it was exciting and full of thrills and spills. Certain viewers won’t like the more patient possession based football. Albeit less than 45% possession at the weekend doesn’t really align with that statement. What’s really stood out to me so far is the absence of draws. Draws can be a killer in a title race, some can be good but so far Slot has managed to avoid any.

Champions League 2024/2025

Liverpool had controlled most games up to the Chelsea fixture. It was a pragmatic move by Slot that in one way is a good contrast to Klopp who just stuck to his all out pressing game … which undid him last year. But it also handed the initiative to Chelsea who i thought were meh really given how much ball they were allowed have.

In depth ‘analysis’ is a bit footixy but id see it more as the pies are much nicer at anfield than old Trafford, John Henry is a great man to hold the door open for women or Curtis Jones took the name Seamus for his confirmation.
