Ukraine was zero threat to Russia. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were zero threat to Russia. Poland, Romania and Hungary were zero threat to Russia. NATO was zero threat to Russia.

The Guardian publishes a wide range of opinion. As has been common practice by you for years, you link to one opinion article and claim that that is the editorial line of the entire newspaper. You couldn’t display a greater misunderstanding of how media works if you tried.

The US was blue in the face telling people Putin was going to launch this war. They were correct. You were not.
Again, answer the question as to WHY Putin saw NATO, the EU, peaceful countries on his doorstep as “a threat.”
When they were categorically NOT a threat to him. The whole of the west walked on eggshells around Putin for two decades, hoping he would just go away, and allowed his dirty money and disinformation penetrate and corrupt our politics and foster totally batshit beliefs in our societies.

It’s easy to see how insincere he is on this, he doesn’t care about the lives he wants gone with an escalation of war. Russophobia is his logic. You can condemn Putin and Russia but how can you claim its for a moral reason when you turn a bind eye to war crimes committed by the West and their allies.
It’s so cynical, a guy advocating for war 5k miles from his home and then ignoring the plight of muslims a little bit further east. The fact that The Doxxer’s multi account goes around making racist slurs against muslims tells you all you need to know about his mindset.

Why does he see NATO as a threat?
I have to head for more important matters, so this will be my last response for the day.
Because he is the effective dictator of (in his mind) a great world power, and sees the US as his adversary. He is stuck in Cold War thinking, a leopard does not change it’s spots (Except on TFK where posters can pivot from Jeremy Corbyn socialists to US neocons in an instant).
To him NATO is the US, and whatever you regard the US as, peaceful is not an appropriate word. Just since 2001, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen. We’ve spent $6 trillion on wars, I wouldn’t all that peaceful. It doesn’t sound like you value the lives lost in those wars, I wonder why?
You need to broaden your reading beyond neocons like Michael McFaul.
So. He sees NATO and any western institution which promotes actual freedom (which does not include the US right wing) as a threat because everything he believes is utter bullshit.
And because:
i) he runs Russia as a criminal mafia state.
ii) He is a blood and soil fascist who believes in the restoration of the Russian empire.
iii) Free democracies not just next door, but anywhere, are a threat to dictatorships because they offer far better lives for their people. And any people in Russia who are exposed to western media, ie. the truth, know it. These people are thus a threat to Putin.
It is instructive as to your morally bankrupt, decadent and depraved worldview that you place the blame for Putin’s evil imperial war of barbarity on NATO.

I think if Putin wants to remain in power, he will have to steer Russia down a path which is genuinely comparable to what the Nazis did in Germany, where the whole of society is organised towards the glorification of him and towards the crazed goal of ultimate military conquest of Europe. He has already gone a long way down this road, but I have no doubt he will ramp things up massively. Unless something happens to interrupt all this, and we should all pray it does.
